November Featured Geocacher of the Month Nominees – Add Your Comments

The November Featured Geocacher of the Month Nominees provide their geocaching communities with a little TLC (tender loving care). They maintain for their own hides, but they are always willing to lend a helping hand with geocaches that are not their own. These geocachers are dedicated to doing whatever they can for their geocaching community from donations, to homemade swag, to their time.

October Geocacher of the Month, TeamAstro

Now it’s your turn to help select one of them as the Featured Geocacher of the Month for November.

Write a comment at the bottom of this blog about which of these geocachers you feel should be crowned The Featured Geocacher of the Month.

Last month, John, a.k.a. TeamAstro was recognized for creating the Solar System series of caches in South Australia. This series of caches is the world’s largest scale model of the Solar System. John is famous for his creative hides and is the proud owner of the most ‘Favorited’ cache in South Australia. John is also an important part of the South Australian geocaching community, and is known for his friendliness and eagerness in helping out new cachers.

Here are your nominees for the October Featured Geocacher of the Month. Some testimonials have been edited for length.

AZClaimjumper writes, “when you go a looking for a cschooner cache, you’re in for fun and adventure far beyond anyone’s imagination.” Al, a.k.a. cschooner “is relatively new to geocaching. However, the creativity of his caches is what makes geocaching such a fun and memorable outdoor adventure each and every time I go looking for one his caches. His hides are very creative and Al takes pride in providing timely cache maintenance, if a cache, or a part of a cache is logged by a fellow geocacher as missing. Take note of the number of ‘Favorites’ that Al’s caches have accumulated before you go looking for them. Almost 60% of all log entries haven given Al’s caches a ‘Favorite’ point. If you are visiting Phoenix, do a search for cschooner to see if one of his caches has been hidden nearby. Trust me, it will be a memorable adventure. A Travel Bug  has just been put into circulation in honor of Al as my way of saying ‘thanks’ for all the fun-filled adventures his creative hides have given me.”

Nominated by TheBergstromClan, Erik, a.k.a. OF-Erad “is an amazing individual and fun cacher. Erik is always up for a caching jaunt and will go out hiking, hit a power trail, or crawl through tunnels all in the name of finding another cache with friends.  He recently ended his cache-a-day streak of over 500 days because he was caring for a friend who needed some support. He gave the friendship priority over getting one more day in his streak. OF-Erad also adopted one of the toughest tunnel caches and then completely revamped it, rescuing it from the clutches of raccoons and other muggles in the process. Erik is a selfless cacher. Even though he had a long caching streak going, he still managed to always put other cachers in the group before himself.  As he told me on multiple occasions, ‘I only need one cache to keep my streak going. Let’s go get the caches you want to get.’ The puzzle caches I’ve placed in Aurora were placed using knowledge acquired with Erik’s help. He is mostly interested in making the great game of caching more interesting, more exciting, and more fun for kids of all ages.”

Cacheseekers! writes, “Not only is Ted [a.k.a., balkamper13] the Elvis of the caching world, he is just a darn good person. He has introduced and help countless novice cachers become caching addicts. He has lent out his GPS to new cachers, spent numerous hours teaching his secrets, and invited new cachers on caching adventures and to events. He donates quality, homemade swag, time, and money to caching events. Ted is the mastermind behind the Cache Scene Investigator cache series that has a huge following. This series has everything from underwater caches to pulley system caches hoisted up a tree. This series has the Utah caching world on pins and needles waiting for the Longitude and Latitude killer to strike again. Ted also carries around a cache repair kit and leaves every cache in better condition than he finds it in. Ted also shares his caching adventures and tips on his blog at Live Love Cache.com. The list of people he has influenced and befriended is countless.”

  • Erica Putnam

I vote for Abalkamper13!!! A man with plenty of passion for the cache!

  • mayorofcockleland

Cschooner- some of the most ingenious caches I have attempted. Great communicating with him, even though I am from across the pond.

  • Tiana

    A very good candidate! I vote balkamper13

  • Lockjaw

If Geocaching was Jazz, Balkamper13 would be Miles Davis.

  • TinmanUT

Ballkamper13 rocks when it comes to Geocaching. My wife and I have been at many events and he is always willing to go the extra mile to help out newbies with questions and responses on anything related to Geocaching.

  • Nikki Morrow

I vote for Balkamper13. I don’t know much about Geocaching, but I know a lot about Ted. What a great guy!! I have worked with him for many years and have a great respect for him. He’d give the shirt off his back or anything else that anyone needed. I know he loves Geocaching and am not suprised by the comments I’ve read about the type of guy he is. GO TED!!!!!! Nikki

  • hjnielsen

  • Dumbledore’s Army 2006

balkamper13 was the first cacher I met caching when I started this game.ted is a blast to cache with and has very good caches that you can trust.thanks ted for being a good friend and making caching always fun.

  • Team SW&L

Team SW&L votes for cschooner. We’ve enjoyed hiking along the canals and finding his many fun and creative caches. The Micro Duck series is whimsical, and with their cute names, they always put a smile on our faces. My Bucket’s Got A Hole In It and The Pirate and the Prince (??) are well-crafted and cleverly use the resources at hand. Many of his caches involve finding a tool to use to find or retrieve the cache. There are many favorited caches too numerous to list here. He obviously spends a LOT of time and thought making and maintaining his creations. We’re looking forward to many more cache runs focusing on his hides.

  • madambutterfly1822

Balkamper13 is a top notch geocacher. He takes time to make owners feel good by writing clever and encouraging logs. That means a lot! He has recruited his whole family into goecaching and even met his wife because of GC! He hosts wonderful monthly events which are well thought out, well attended, and very fun to go to. He and his wife write a great Blog, called LiveLoveCache. It is humorous and lots of fun! But I guess BalKamper’s magnus opus would have to be his CSI caches which are beyond description fun and have made him famous. Balkamper13 certainly deserves this honor and he has my vote!

  • Brian Lambert

I would like to put my hat into the cschooner ring as our geocacher of the month. Eventhough we are from Alberta, Canada, we made a trip to the great state of Arizona in June and despite the hot hot temperatures, well darn hot for us Albertans, as we never see temperatures of that magnitude, we actually did alot of geocaching. Now we don’t actually know team cschooner we ended up finding 14 of their caches during our visit and all were a pleasure to find and a few were quite unique in their design and setup that made them very enjoyable to seek out and find. Although we didn’t have any troubles finding any of their caches we sought after, I did notice that when there was a problem with their caches they quickly set out and resolved the issue and posted a “write note” stating that they did so. We therefore never had to contact them about problems with any of their caches, but we did read in some logs that some fellow cachers did and wrote that they contacted the CO and they readily helped them out with the problem and then proceeded to fix the problem right away. So thanks to cschooner for placing all those smilies for us and good luck in your nomination and keep them coming.

  • Another one for Balkamper13. Go Ted

  • crackerjackie

    OF-ERAD has my vote!

  • a geocacher in colorado

i vote for Of-Erad i have known him for some time he has found a lot of caches and he hides a lot of cool caches and he owns the coolest cache in Colorado if not in the country. and i can tell you he does not lie like some people are saying.

  • gundark2000

My vote goes for Balkamper13! It’s cachers like him that make this game/sport (obsession?) so enjoyable.

  • ithink314

If Gilstrap and genese09 want ballkamper13, then so do I, I think.

  • Ian Lambert

Ian Lambert is in the ballkamper13 camp.

  • Disintagrator

    vote cast for “balkamper13”,

  • kellyfam7

I vote for Of Erad! He is a great guy and is always there for other cachers.

  • jc

i’m throwing in my vote for OF-ERAD. Why you may ask? here’s why (1). He’s one of the best cachers out there and well know and respected throughout the geocaching community. (2.) Second and more important – While my wife and I were vacationing and attending the mega geocaching event in Denver back in October we drove down to Colo Springs to visit some friends and there is where we meet EriK for the first time. Erik, myself, my wife and another friend of ours stopped to pick up a cache my wife and I planned to get while we were in town. While we were cache someone had broke into our car and stole my wife’s purse and other items we had in the car. we filed reports with the police department and the case is still an open case. Erik had just meet us that day outside of talking to us on Facebook. He took time out of his day and spent a few hours driving around the next day looking for the person we believed broke into our car. Provided a full decription of the same individual that we believe had an hand in the crime. For someone we hardly know to comment his time effort to help us earns my vote. He could have done what so many people do these days and did nothing but he held out a hand for another geocacher, friend and military solider in need of help. I think this speaks volumes to his character and values as a person. If you ask me OF-ERAD would be an excellent choice for the Geocacher of the month.

I believe there is more to this game them just putting out Geocaches or racking up your numbers. Like the lasting friendships you develop through your travels and the people that make this hobby enjoyable. So As I look through the countless blogs below and see numerous people I know voting twice,or three times and more under allies accounts in the hope of others to win, I do hope careful consideration is taken in deciding the winner of this months Geocacher of the month.

If anybody thinks this story is false send me message and I’ll be glad to talk to you about it. Thanks for your time.

  • JC

Oh and just for the record “Johnny cache “- I know a ton of people that save up caches so they can create there no stop streak.. big deal that really doesn’t mean anything. just like people share TB numbers and sign names of there buddies on logs that they haven’t really found. Nothing against anybody on this page but I really wish the childish games would stop so we all can get back to geocaching.

  • apersonwhoselifeyouhavetouched

Balkamper13 has given my family many great memories that were and are unforgettable! From our experience, anyone who graces his presence, even if for only a brief moment, are touched in positive ways, and can smile looking back on each moment! Thank you Theo, truly! Words cannot express…. I am honored to vote for Balkamper13, first as a person and second as a cacher making a positive difference, one memory at a time!

  • Debjohn

    Balkamper has my vote!

  • Ramli

My vote is for OF-Erad! He Rocks!

  • Maldonado

I have cached many times with OF-Erad. He gets my vote for sure.

  • SnailMan1

OF-Erad has helped me many times, so he has my vote

  • Voting for OF-Erad. It doesn’t say anything in his writeup about his caching “courses” for newbies, his demos on how to hide and mark lat and long for a hide so the coords are spot on, the fact that he gave away gpsrs to cachers who were in need of decent equipment, that he hosts numerous events throughout the year for us to get together and become the Front Range geocaching family, his crazy cache containers (and videos of how to construct a great container), and that he has hidden and maintained over a hundred caches (good puzzles, easy puzzles, trads, etc), many of which I still need to go find. He also carries a cache repair kit to fix damaged caches. I don’t know anyone else in this area that does all that OF-Erad has done for the game. Seriously, you should vote for him.

  • balkamp slave #4

    Balkamper13 I pick you.

  • anna nicole sniff

hey i am all about my teddy bear getting this go ted

  • i vote for Balkamper13 go teddy bear

  • ERP

Of-Erad’s has lots of stories about himself and other Geocachers. Unfortunately the good ones about him are just made up and the negative ones about other cachers usually don’t include his involvement. Shady people don’t deserve to win more attention.

    I vote for Balkamper13!

  • -CacheHound

My vote is for OF-Erad. We met while I was on vacation in Colorado attending a hiking event near Pikes Peak. Erik is an amazing person with great enthusiasm for geocaching and a great sense of adventure. Although we only met once I consider him a friend.

  • chris

i am gonna half to represent utah on this and vote balkamper13. unfortanately i am late getting this in but will post it anyway. though we have had some hard times getting long, he is the one that took his time out to help me find 2 caches, the 2 being close to my house in kearns utah. he’s the one that introduced me to event caches and the one that gave me 2 free geocache containers. thank you balkamper13!

  • jecepe08

My vote is for balkamper13. I am new to the goecaching community and he welcomed me in. Made my little family feel welcomed. We love to find his and cacheseeker’s hides.

  • Anon_Cacher

Of-Erad? He was caught damaging caches, throws down caches he can’t find, constantly trashes several cachers and was banned from a caching group for his dishonesty.

  • purple_rain88

  • LittlePegasus

I vote for Al Schooner. His caches are both interesting and challenging (there is one that I need to try again on). Plus he places them in scenic spots.

  • b.boudreau

cschooner gets my vote for geocacher of the month. I’ve found many of his hides. They are both inventive and imaginative.

  • OF-Erad has my vote
