Geocacher of Month Nominees for April 2013 – Add Your Comments

The nominees for the April Featured Geocacher of the Month award hail from three different nations, but contribute to one global game.  Each offers a welcoming hand to those new to geocaching and creative hides for all geocachers.  The nominees come from the United States, New Zealand and Denmark.

Now it’s your turn to help us select the next Featured Geocacher of the Month. Write a supportive comment at the bottom of this blog for the geocacher you feel should be awarded the title.  Each geocacher is already a winner and will receive a prize package from Geocaching HQ. A panel of folks from Geocaching HQ will then use your comments to help guide the decision of which geocacher is awarded the honor.

Each Featured Geocacher of the Month will receive an exclusive special edition Featured Geocacher of the Month Geocoin, hat and profile icon. They’ll also get a certificate acknowledging their contributions, signed by two of the founders of Geocaching.

WVTim - Featured Geocacher of the Month
WVTim – Featured Geocacher of the Month

In March, WVTim was named the Featured Geocacher of the Month. He’s known as an inspiration to geocachers for his unique geocaches, excellent maintenance habits and his geocaching YouTube channel. He’s accumulated more than 2,000 Favorite Points on his geocaches and he teaches geocaching in schools and to the Boy Scouts.

Here are your nominees for the March Featured Geocacher of the Month. Some testimonials have been edited for length.

Olefant - Nominee for the Geocacher of the Month
Olefant – Nominee for the Geocacher of the Month

Michael Schwartz “schwartz-hansen” writes, “Our nominee is Olefant (the name is a combination of his first name Ole and his logo a biking elephant – elefant in danish).

He is a retired music teacher from Copenhagen who by now has released nearly 250 caches in Denmark and other countries. He started geocaching in 2009, and has been very active from 2011 until now. He has made a lot of cartoon caches and his FTF-certificates are often laminated pictures of the cartoon figures. At his last event on the 16 of March, he released more than 30 caches, with cartoon series and an Astrology series called the Zoodiak – because the theme of the event was animals.

With his events and his caches, we think that Olefant is a big inspiration for the other geocachers in Denmark, … besides that he is always taking his time to talk to all the persons he meets at events and when he is in the field geocaching.”

MulderNScully - Nominees for the Geocacher of the Month
MulderNScully – Nominees for the Geocacher of the Month

Cristina Florez, “Mamabear Crew” writes, “My nomination for MulderNScully isn’t just because they’re “nice”… it’s because they take geocaching as a true sport. And their caches… ooooh their caches……. just like their username suggests, they are out of this world! Inventive, thought out, truly educational, and some of them hard as hell. They have been an inspiration to us and we will be trying to follow their lead in making this sport a true adventure!”

Jerry Lynn DellAmic writes, “They have helped me when I got stuck on puzzle caches, but they never gave me the solution.  They made me talk out loud. …MulderNScully take pride in their geocaches.  For them, it’s not about the numbers.  It’s about enjoying life.  Taking the opportunity to walk among nature.  Go to places that you may not ever get the chance to see. If it hadn’t been for this great hobby, I would never have had the opportunity to meet these life long friends.”

Onslow Fisherman

Onslow Fisherman – Nominee for Geocacher of the Month

Natalie Gray writes, “I would like to nominate Jim Greene, also known as Onslow Fisherman, as Geocacher of the Month. I met Jim by mail, when he very nicely answered some question I had about a puzzle cache he had. He invited me to meet him and his wife in NZ and I jumped at the chance. We became friends and he has helped me with computer questions, etc…We’ve even done an “International Cache” together, GC44F7A and GC42HKJ respectively. Jim is well respected in his native geocaching community, always giving back. He ran a GSAK seminar at NZ Mega in October, and also arranged a 4X4 event last year. His caches are great, and he’ll even lend you his GPS to find them. (GC2QAHK and GC2MF3T). He is helpful to newbies and experienced cachers alike, gets tons of favorite points on his caches, and makes our sport better every day. He also has over 1000 caches to his credit, which is hard to do in a relatively small island country. Jim Greene/Onslow Fisherman, epitomizes the best in geocaching and definitely deserves to be a Geocacher of the Month.”

    New month, new luck.

What about the rules for the decition of “Geocacher of the month”?

Are they still the same as on march? –> At last, GS decide?

  • wsh

    i vote for moenk!

  • Chinese Democracy

Why should i vote. Votes do not count.

  • Love it or leave it

    Shut up, moenk!

  • Depp Jones

  • Democracy now!

We vote, the votes are counted and Groundspeak decides. But at least, we can pay a 29,99 €/a for this fun

    Moenk ! ! !

  • Zweiauge

I’m sorry for the Danish guy, he can’t win, even if he gets all the votes. The votes count nothing, you need an english- speaking fanbase to win. They have to have blogs (in the US?) and write long, educated comments. So just let the US-guy win, take our money (Danish cachers like the rest of Europe have to pay 30% more for premium than US-Cachers or New Zealnd- Cacher), but don’t put this “vote”- farce up again. Thank you. I vote for moenk.

  • Börkumer

    i vote for moenk!

  • meforfun

Snatch the popcorn, the german jerks are back. Uh, and I thought this day at the office would be boring. Silly me.

  • rumpelsocke

    I vote for moenk

  • Ganz schlechter Versuch 🙂

  • Freedom of speach

I would vote for Olefant – just because he is from Europe, but why should I vote?!?

I’m just a stupid European, which you can sell for stupid … a european who can`t count votes, a european who can`t calculate the exchange rates, and even a european that has not the right to comment in the forum, blog or on Facebook his opinion – i missed the note that Groundspeak is now a chinese or north-korean company.

Following the antics of the German reviewer, the censorship in the forum, in the comments of the blog, on Facebook and the outrageous price increase, where Groundspeak takes the customers for an idiot, my Premium-Membership expired last Week.
One more reason why my vote doesn`t count – just a basic member who lists his caches now on alternative plattforms.

  • Klaus

Do you buy your popcorn from the rise of my contribution which increases by 30%?

    I vote for moenk!

  • Schatzjaeger2

I now agree it out in protest again for Moenk and for the reason that it Groundspeak apparently totally does not matter how many votes someone gets right now, it is better avoided when requesting that they had but only the contents of the individual comments rather than the number taken, at this point, it should perhaps be noted that most people who know Moenk come from German speaking countries. It also follows that no one takes the trouble and long, detailed and laudatory writes novels …
And of course I also agree, therefore, for Moenk because he is really a very great geocachers who has done with his forum, which he has operated since 2003, much of the German community and still does. Cacher from all provinces come together there to arrange to meet for common cache or even breed with others about puzzles and every now and again also food for thought. Also, the podcast that this has produced some cacher has really liked me then …
    → MY VOTE FOR Moenk

  • Chris Race

  • Pick-a-Name

  • Bribe

Do we really have to go through this farce again? Take our 30€/40USD and keep this fake vote inside the US

  • Mama Muh

How embarrassing, I voted last month. I won`t do it again. You know better how to decide. Greetings from Europe.

  • Andreas Dorfer

I propose moenk as candidate since he failed last month by a few votes count. so hopefully this month he is more lucky.

  • mic@

short: My vote gies to Moenk.

  • frostengel

I want to apologize for the behaviour of some other German geocachers. It doesn’t matter if I understand their rage or if I do not but what they are doing here is absolutely not fair to the three nominated persons here. Be sure they won’t stop posting but also be sure that we do not all support this behaviour here.

Let’s look at the new nominees. I do not know any of these three and therefore looked unbiasedly at their profiles and their hidden caches and it seems to me that they are all worthy to be voted for in this categorie. I also looked at their last logs and it is a pity for me that those logs were very short ones not being very meaningful. They obviously can improve here or did I just look at the wrong logs? 😉

If I had to choose, I think I like the nomination text of MulderNScully is slightly more attractive to me then the other two, but I can hardly see a big difference between those three, so I give my “blessing” to all of them. 🙂

Good luck to all of them and have a nice time supporting our hobby.

    Best wishes from Germany

  • Bribe

  • Based on the three bios, my vote is for MulderNScully… why?

“For them, it’s not about the numbers. It’s about enjoying life. Taking
the opportunity to walk among nature. Go to places that you may not
ever get the chance to see.”

That is exactly what geocaching is all about!

  • Coralteach

I’m voting for Onslow Fisherman! He deserves to win…he’s a great representative for NZ and geocaching.

  • Kathleen Hicks

My vote is for Onslow Fisherman. I have checked out his caches in preparation for a trip to the NZ Mega Event in October 2013 after some cachers spoke about their expeirences at the last NZ Mega. Very challenging and lots of fun. Best of luck to all the nominees.

  • SpyGeocacher

My vote is definitely for MulderNScully due to their love of the sport of Geocaching and the outdoors! They act as mentors for new geocachers in the community giving them advice and help during events or when you run into them while caching! They have helped us tremendously as I have found more and more caches throughout the years. Their hides are one of a kind and there is nothing else like them out of the two million geocaches hidden! They have 5 earthcaches, several fun multi-stage caches (including an awesome night cache), put on multiple events including CITOS, and have many fun puzzles to solve for the whole family!

  • morisato

Don’t they mean May 7th? Because it’s April 26 today, and I just got this e-mail 12 hours ago. :/
In any case I vote for MulderNScully Yeah, Cache on!

  • You got it! Definitely May… fixed when the post went live. Thanks for your comment.

  • Graf Alex von Hinten

    All hail the Berufsgeocacher!

  • Pardon?

  • I want to point out that many people in germany are pissed off from the behaviour of groundspeak. I did not encourage anybody to vote for me this month, they are free people with own minds. It may be considered to be kind of protest, and in my opionion it is not the right way to fight this with censorship and ignorance.

  • moenk? never

Google translate can’t make it worse. The English of most German geocachers is just ridiculous.

  • Liz

Thank you for your comment, I recently thought the same while scrolling through the silly comments here… THUMBS UP!

  • Bavarian Jury

No points for everybody. So an Schmarrn.

  • mefd

Split it up in US Geocachers and Rest of the World Geocachers. That fits to how you see the world anyway. My vote goes to Olefant for his efforts to distribute that many funny caches in a small country that is deserved to be mentioned here – Denmark!

  • An Apologize

I also have to say some words to this silly situation. Please keep in mind that the “moenk” comments are just from some people, not accepting that their favorite hasn’t won last month. I can’t understand why they are starting such a flood of comments for moenk again, I hardly hope that it won’t work!

Please ignore their comments. They are blaming so many other Geocachers and ruin the title of the “Geocacher of the Month” with that behaviour. I can’t stop to facepalm…

  • Zweiauge

Moenk had 30% more votes than WVTim, and he had lost anyway. What a coincidence! We Europeans have also 30% more to pay for premium.

Ein Schelm, wer Böses dabei denkt.

I think its just one way for groundspeak to say: “Hey, Europeans, you are 30% less worth than our great US- cachers.

  • Another one

But much better than the german of most English or US geocachers, if they could handle a second language at all.

    So, what’s your point?

  • GC business management

  • Jörg

    Sorry, but you are wrong!

There are not only a “few” geocacher with (each more than one?) “moenk” comments. There are a lot of from GS disapointed people.

    Not more, not less.

    Be happy going on facepalming…!

  • Geogonzo

  • Geogonzo

Oh, i vote for myself! Not for moenk… As G$ does finially decide who wins, i got a pretty good chance… So, my vote goes to: myself!

  • I vote for Onslow Fisherman. I had a GSAK question about a problem I was having with a macro and he gave me a quick and easy solution to help me (sometimes I am technologically challenged). We have communicated ever since. I love to look at the caches he creates and to read the logs when he and his wife go on a caching run. I even created a puzzle cache here in Ohio (United States) called Onslow Fisherman (GC2F8F8) as recognition to him of a puzzle type he loves (NOT)!!! He is a great guy and very knowledgeable and helpful. I doubt I will ever get to New Zealand but if I do I hope to meet Jim and his wife.

  • Tysja

… They are blaming so many other Geocachers and ruin the title of the “Geocacher of the Month” with that behaviour …

I´m sorry, but NO! Groundspeak is blaming all Geocachers. Why should we vote for someone and at last, the votes worth nothing ???

I could vote for catweazle or moenk or for my own cat, it do not make a different!
