Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom can keep geocachers away from this Letterbox Hybrid. Well, that’s not completely true since this cache is only accessible during business hours, but you catch the drift.

The posted coordinates take you just outside the Taipei Beimen Post Office. There, you must locate a small film canister with a key inside. Take that very special key, head inside the post office, and locate mailbox 59535. Inside you will find a manila envelope filled with a logbook, letterbox stamp, SWAG, and hopefully more than a few trackables.

Since this is a Letterbox Hybrid, geocachers have a few options after signing the log: use the enclosed stamp in your personal letterboxing logbook, add your personal stamp to the logbook, or lick n’ stick a postage stamp to add to the theme.

The post office was originally a modest wooden structure, but in 1913 the building burned down in a fire. Thus, the post office was rebuilt and expanded with construction finishing in April of 1930. The post office is still open and fully functional, complete with stations to mail packages, P.O. boxes, and a geocache.

Extra bonus: the North Gate of Old Taipei City is right across the street. The post office and the North Gate are both national historic sites. This Geocache of the Week may get lots of fan mail!

This is one of my favorites. Had a great time looking for it.

Doesn’t this cache break several Geocaching Golden Rules? Does it set a president that will allow me to create a Geocache that encourages cachers to enter our village Post Office in the New Forest in the UK? I got away with putting a cache in the redundant phone box outside, but to pass the reviewer I had to make sure the name of the shop (Woodfalls Post Office) couldn’t be seen in the photo, nor could I mention why it is a hub for the local community. This cache is great. I found it five months after I first started geocaching and instantly gave it a favorite point. In fact, it’s the cache here in Taiwan with the most favorite points, by far.

  • Great stuff. Key-locked caches are always an excellent choice as they get less likely muggled. 👍👍👍

I am so happy this cache got to be a geocache of the week! A great and fun cache, a real letterbox for letterbox hybrid, and also it is good to see some well deserve attention to Taiwan’s geocaching’s scene. I met some of Taipei’s cachers on my day in Taiwan, literaly after landing and arriving into the city, and I was very impress by these amazingly nice people and their enthuism for the game. I do hope the well deserve country souvenir for Taiwan will be added to the site this year, and I hope even more to visit it again, longer this time.
    Congratulation, kakoui!

I visited Taiwan/Taipei October 2015 and didn’t even know there was a cache here. I even took a photo of the Historic North Gate but didn’t know about the cache. Oh well, hope to get back there one day…
