Out with the old, in with these two new souvenirs!

2018 has been out of this world for geocaching—literally! We became Official Space Explorers during Planetary Pursuit, traversed forests, deserts, oceans, and up to the mountaintops to discover beings never before known to man during Hidden Creatures, and found ourselves through our geocaching personalities. Not ready to come back down to Earth yet? We’ve got more in store for you.

This year, we invite you to say ‘Thanks’ to 2018 and welcome 2019 with two new geocaching souvenirs. Find a geocache or attend an event on December 31 to earn the Thanks 2018 souvenir. Then, kick off the New Year with the Hello 2019 souvenir, which can also be earned by finding a geocache or attending an event on January 1.

How do I earn both souvenirs?

  1. Earn the Thanks 2018 souvenir by finding any geocache or attending an event on December 31, 2018.
  2. Earn the Hello 2019 souvenir by finding another geocache or attending a different event on January 1, 2019.

What types of geocaches qualify for either souvenir?

Nearly any type of geocache! Including:

  • Traditional Caches
  • Multi-caches
  • Virtual Caches
  • Letterbox Hybrids
  • Event Caches
  • Unknown (Mystery) Caches
  • Webcam Caches
  • Cache In Trash Out Events
  • Earthcaches
  • Mega-Event Caches
  • Wherigo Caches

Can you earn two souvenirs for one Event Cache if it starts on December 31 and ends on January 1?

No; to earn both souvenirs, you’ll have to submit two different logs for two different geocaches or events, one on each day.

Can I schedule back-to-back events to earn both souvenirs ?

Nope! According to the geocache hiding guidelines, event stacking is not allowed. To avoid event stacking, Event Caches should be separated by time, organized by different geocachers, have a minimum duration of 30 minutes and take place at a different location than other events. Please check out the geocaching hiding guidelines for more information about planning an Event Cache.

How do I plan ahead to find the nearest geocaches or Events?

Click this link to find Events and geocaches near you! If hosting an Event is your New Year’s resolution, the last day to submit your event is December 17th. Check out the geocaching guidelines for more information.

However you choose to celebrate, New Year’s is an opportunity to appreciate the experiences of the past year and embrace what is to come.

How will you say ‘Thanks’ to 2018 and welcome 2019?
