Out with the old, in with these two new souvenirs!

Geocachers accomplished a lot in 2019! We celebrated cache creation with a worldwide Cache Carnival, we found lots of new Virtual Caches thanks to Virtual Rewards 2.0, we became master sleuths and collected clues to solve the Mystery at the Museum, and we Streaked for a whole Week at the end of August!

The year is not over yet, and we’ve got much more geocaching excitement in store for 2020! Get ready geocachers, because the 20th anniversary of geocaching is just the start.

This year, we invite you to say “Goodbye” to 2019 and “Hello” to 2020 with two new geocaching souvenirs. Find a geocache or attend an event on December 31 to earn the Goodbye 2019 souvenir. Then, kick off the New Year with the Hello 2020 souvenir, which can also be earned by finding a geocache or attending an event on January 1.

How do I earn both souvenirs?

  1. Earn the Goodbye 2019 souvenir by finding any geocache or attending an event on December 31, 2019.
  2. Earn the Hello 2020 souvenir by finding another geocache or attending a different event on January 1, 2020.

What types of geocaches qualify for either souvenir?

Nearly any type of geocache! Including:

  • Traditional Caches
  • Multi-Caches
  • Virtual Caches
  • Letterbox Hybrids
  • Event Caches
  • Mystery Caches
  • Webcam Caches
  • Cache In Trash Out Events
  • EarthCaches
  • Mega-Event Caches
  • Wherigo Caches
  • Adventure Labs

Can I earn two souvenirs for one Event Cache if it starts on December 31 and ends on January 1?

No; to earn both souvenirs, you’ll have to submit two different logs for two different geocaches or events, one on each day.

Can I schedule back-to-back events to earn both souvenirs?

According to the geocache hiding guidelines, event stacking is not allowed. To avoid event stacking, Event Caches should be separated by time, organized by different geocachers, have a minimum duration of 30 minutes and take place at a different location than other events. Please check out the Geocache hiding guidelines for more information about planning an Event Cache.

Can a cache I find or an Event I attend on December 31 or January 1 count towards my 3, 2, 1 Go! souvenir as well?

Yes! Any cache that is found or Event that is attended on December 31 or January 1 will count towards both your souvenir for “Goodbye 2019/Hello 2020” and “3, 2, 1 Go!”.

However you choose to celebrate, New Year’s is an opportunity to appreciate the experiences of the past year and embrace what is to come. How will you say “Goodbye” to 2019 and “Hello” to 2020?
