A couple of cache hiders: an interview with BrettandBekah

BrettandBekah are a geocaching power couple hailing from Richmond, Virginia. If you look for geocaching content on Instagram you may have stumbled upon their fun-loving page. They are loud and proud cache owners, often sharing their creativity and inspiring others to search for their unique cache containers and to create their own. But they do keep some hides a secret—not even HQ could get a glimpse at their coolest caches.

We were lucky enough to get permission to check out most of their creative hides and interview the dynamic duo. Learn a little about them, how they discovered the game, and which of their unspoiled geocaches is their favorite:

Geocaching HQ: What’s your background outside of geocaching?

We are geocachers from Richmond, Virginia. Bekah and I both love the outdoors and being creative. We spend a lot of time hiking and mountain biking. Bekah really enjoys painting in oil and acrylic as well, which comes in handy when creating caches.

Geocaching HQ: How and when did you hear about geocaching?

When Bekah moved to Richmond several years ago a friend introduced her to it so she could get to know the area better. While we were out mountain biking a few years after her first cache Bekah mentioned it and we decided to find one. After searching for about 20 minutes I had my first smiley and I was hooked.

Geocaching HQ: Which cache got you hooked?

GC1C4N9. It took us about 20 minutes to find but once I found it I was fascinated.

Geocaching HQ: What keeps you engaged with the game?

Finding new places and meeting other geocachers.

Crazy 8s

Geocaching HQ: For you, what makes a quality cache?

Location and creativity.

Geocaching HQ: What’s the best approach to creating a geocache?

When we hide a cache we like to ask ourselves “Would this be fun if I was finding it?”

SteampunkJunk # 1 ⏰

Geocaching HQ: If someone reading this was looking for inspiration, what words of advice would you give them?

Be yourself and have fun.

Geocaching HQ: You have a number of complicated and intricate caches. Do you find it difficult to provide maintenance on them?

It’s not as difficult as it may seem. Most of our caches are within 5 miles of our home.

Seriously? Underwater 🌊🚣⛵

Geocaching HQ: Have you ever had an idea that you thought was impossible?

With B&B nothing is impossible. 😉

Geocaching HQ: Do you have a favorite hide of your own active caches?

GC8HG04 but we aren’t giving any spoilers for this one.
