Who doesn’t love a good road trip?

The wind in your hair, the road in your rearview mirror, the geocaches ahead of you—it’s a traveler’s dream! With our Geocache of the Week, it’s all about the journey, not the destination. Let’s hit the road and make some memories with Bulli on the Road (GC7GQCV)!

It’s no secret that cache owner vwbulli has a preferred mode of transportation. Even their profile picture highlights Olaf, their 1979 Volkswagen T2 Campervan. In vintage style, Olaf has taken them throughout Europe, finding geocaches and enjoying adventures with their family.

It only makes sense, then, that their first cache hide is a tribute to Olaf and the many memories they’ve made while geocaching.

Road trippers will start by navigating through the mountainous terrain of Switzerland. As is common with geocachers on a road trip, you’ll need to make a quick detour to nab this highly sought-after cache.

Secured in a large wooden cabinet with the Geocaching® logo, this one is pretty hard to miss.

If you thought this would be easy, we’ll remind you: it’s about the journey, not the destination. And the journey isn’t over quite yet.

Using the cache page, searchers can unlock the cabinet and get one stop closer to the find. As the cabinet doors open, a story in miniature proportions unfolds. The scene inside reflects the many travel adventures of vwbulli and their beloved van, Olaf: dining in the city, navigating a rowboat along the water, and, of course, driving Olaf through the mountainsides.

There’s just one thing missing from this scene: the logbook.

Upon this realization, it all becomes clear. Just as Olaf was integral to the many adventures depicted before you, he’s just as important to making this find.

Geocachers can use the provided tools to navigate Olaf through the scenes in the cabinet, reliving the travels as if they were there. Down the steep mountain road, across the ferry, over uneven terrain, and eventually, at your fingertips.

As Olaf arrives safely at his destination, you collect the precious cargo that he is carrying and sign your name. Though this is only a miniature version of the campervan, it’s incredible to think of how many journeys it’s made. You know that the full-sized Olaf is out there, exploring the world and finding more geocaches along the way.

After reflecting on the incredible journey that brought you here, it’s time to pack up and hit the road once again. Where will geocaching take you next?
