That’s a wrap—CITO Season 2
More than 18,000 geocachers attended CITO Events to make their communities a little cleaner and a little greener… but precious gems hid among the litter and weeds; from encounters with nature, to strange and silly objects and even a new friend or two, geocachers discovered more than just trash!
1. GCAV9VN — Goose Island CITO – 2024
Brave geocachers crossed knee-deep water to collect litter along the banks of the Ohio River. On the way, they managed to collect not one but three balls, as well as a challenging EarthCache.
2. GCAW2E6 — CITO am World-Cleanup-Day 🚮#SouvenirCITO
More than 2,000 geocachers participated in CITO Events as part of World Cleanup Day on September 20-22. Geocachers near Tamm, Germany, collected litter at a local park, including a lonely shoe.
3. GCAZMR3 — BSCA – “Paterson’s Curse Returns”
In South Africa, geocachers removed an invasive plant known as Paterson’s Curse. Among the weeds, attendees discovered a tiny bird’s nest with geocache-worthy camouflage.
4. GCAYX3K — Yamagata CITO 2024
Attendee logs lamented the lack of litter to clean up in Kajo Park in Japan (A possible CITO first?). Instead, geocachers discovered art in unusual places, like sewer covers.
5. GCAWCWJ — CITO-utmaning 2024 – September
Speaking of unusual beauty, Swedish geocachers worked together to remove invasive beach roses and came across a well-preserved skull of some beach-creature.
6. GCAPQHP — KGB3 – CITO
With more than 400 participants, a friend or two (or ten!) was not hard to find at this Event in Belgium. Geo-friends flocked from far and wide to attend this side-Event as part of the KGB3 Mega-Event. Check out the crowd:
And with that, CITO 2024 comes to an end.
Thank you to all the geocachers (and their non-geocaching friends) around the world who participated in CITO season 1 and 2. And a special thanks to all the CITO Event hosts who made these memories possible!
