Celebrate the history of geocaching with M.E.G.A.
As we approach geocaching’s 25th anniversary, we decided to celebrate in a BIG way this year.
Our team of geocaching historians sat down to find the best way to commemorate the history, cultural importance, and most importantly, joy, that comes with 25 years of geocaching.
Geocaching HQ is excited to officially introduce M.E.G.A.: The Museum of Exciting Geocaching Artifacts!
Visitors of M.E.G.A. can see exhibits highlighting geocaching’s origins and rich global history. Even the construction of the building itself is based on a part of geocaching history! The thick metal casing of the ammo can represents the strength of the geocaching community (with the added bonus of keeping the exhibits safe from the weather).
Here are just a few of the permanent exhibits that you can expect to see in M.E.G.A.:
- Explore Methods of geocaching through the ages! From the historic paper map, printed online directions, and even the rare GPS device. You’ll get a blast from the past as you walk through the halls of caching history!
- The world’s largest trackable collection (the largest collection was actually owned by a trackable enthusiast in Texas, so we had to create 150 new trackables to claim this title!): ‘Visit’ this exhibit to see some of the most famous trackables out there, including the famed Moun10Bike geocoin and a collection of Jeep trackables!
- The life and adventures of Signal the Frog®: From a tiny tadpole to the celebrated geocaching mascot that he is today, this exhibit explores Signal’s journey to become a global geocaching phenomenon.
The exact location of M.E.G.A. is only accessible to players who solve the world’s most complicated Mystery Cache. The exact publication date of this cache will be delayed until construction of the museum is complete, but it is currently set as the first-ever Difficulty 10 geocache.
In the meantime, check out the museum’s temporary digital exhibit, Fool’s Gold: Geocaching Pranks Through The Ages, for a sneak peek at the sillier side of geocaching:
- Signal’s Ranch
Ever wonder where geocaches come from? They grow on trees, of course!
Locally grown on Geocaching HQ’s farm, Signal’s Ranch, fresh, organic, and non-GeoMO cache crops are picked at the peak of freshness, ready to hide. - GeoLand
Visit the first (and only) geocaching-themed amusement park! GeoLand offers rides and attractions that are sure to be fun for the whole family; take an adrenaline-pumping ride on The DNF Coaster, try not to get dizzy on the Tracker’s Tea-pups ride, and then hop on Signal’s Satellite Tour for an adventure to the stars! This park is set to open on April 1, 2027.

The Geocaching HQ Blog celebrates the things that make this game so amazing, like geocachers themselves! On April 1, 2014, HQ decided to honor a most notable and dedicated geocacher, Dean F., as Geocacher of the Month. With over 50,000 Did Not Find logs, Dean F. is truly an example of what a geocacher can (or can’t) do when they put their mind to it. - T.I.N.Y.
On April 1, 2013, a new geocache size entered the adventure of geocaching! T.I.N.Y. stands for Teentsy Infinitesimal Nucleic Yocto Geocache and measures approximately 1/10,000th of a Micro geocache. Small but mighty, this geocache size is for serious geocachers only. - Cachers of Steel Inspired by the world’s favorite outdoor hobby, an all-new fitness fad swept the geocaching community by storm on April 1, 2012.
