Are you ready to unlock a whole new level of fun? We hope you don’t have a favorite geocache in mind because it’s time to pick your favorite one! This cache comes with some cool Tools of the Trade (TOTT) that will be your key to success.
Unlike the geocache description suggests, we aren’t picking the nose of our friends, but rather picking the nose of this Geocache of the Week, Geocache Picker 101 (GC8R2RA).
Gilby, North Dakota made a name for itself as the “amusement park of geocaching.” Many cachers plan trips to Gilby with the sole purpose of finding as many fun and unique caches as possible.

One of these amusing geocaches, GC8R2RA, is a creative gadget cache by Trycacheus, that puts anyone’s nose-picking… we mean lock-picking skills, to the test. The posted coordinates reveal an amusing sight to see.

A closer look reveals that the wooden knob is not just any, but one in the shape of a nose. Nearby are the necessary TOTT – picking devices, adding to the intrigue of this cache.
Suddenly the cache description makes a lot more sense. A nose… A pick… you got it, you have to pick the lock of this nose to get to the goods.

If you are not familiar with how lock picking works, check out this easy-to-understand explanation. Thankfully, the cache owner also provides instructions within the geocache itself, along with imagery to fully understand what needs to be done.
So you’re a lock-picking pro by now — but not so fast! Once you crack this wooden casing open, you find the next surprise… level 2!
Inside the wooden box is a bright green ammo can with an additional lock to be picked. As if the log sheet would reveal itself after just one lock!

Hopefully, you’re not in a hurry, as this cache proves to be thoughtfully time-consuming. To crack this cache, use the provided TOTT once more.
Getting inside is no easy feat. Many cachers logged entries stating that if it weren’t for someone else in their party, they would not have successfully solved this cache, and others report learning about their unknown lock-picking skills.
Patience and a good picking device are the clear winners here. If you can bring optimism and tenacity, you are sure to get to the magical log sheet along with definite bragging rights.
Nosey cachers will ‘snot’ give up until they crack this cache. Once the glorious final click is heard, the mechanism releases, granting access into the lime green ammo container.
A hard-earned log entry, no wonder picking noses has become a popular activity in Gilby. GC8R2RA has amassed over 600 logs and 263 Favorite points, as of 2025. A number sure to grow as more cachers make their way to this famed geocaching city.

A clever hide, Trycacheus is no stranger to fun gadget caches, writing in their profile:
“Hello, I’m Trycacheus and I live in Gilby, North Dakota. I enjoy spending time in the shop making unique caches. There aren’t many things to see in my hometown of Gilby so I like to place fun gadget caches for people to find.”
This cache is sure to give finders a chuckle while putting concentration and dexterity to the test.”
If you’ve ever wondered what it might be like to pick someone else’s nose, here is your chance!
What kind of gadget cache would you create?
