NES TB HOTEL / ファミコンキャッシュ – Geocache of the Week
“Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right…”
If that sequence is enough to get your thumbs twitching, then this geocache might be for you!

Before the internet, smartphones, or geocaching, a different technological novelty swept the globe. The Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) or Famicom debuted in 1983, marking a new era of in-home gaming consoles that continues to influence the video game industry to this day.

Avid cache owner, _nokos_, created an interactive and eye-catching tribute to this iconic gaming device. With the help of an award-winning robotics student, _nokos_ turned an NES console into a geocache and trackable hotel. Each component is designed to match the vintage Japanese NES design and colors, a nostalgic throwback to the 1980s!
But don’t be fooled into thinking this geocache is child’s play. Geocachers must unlock not one, but two compartments to sign the logbook and earn the smiley. First, unlock the outer padlock to open the protective case. From here, geocachers are treated to their first glimpse of the adapted NES console. Next, geocachers must put their gaming skills to the test to crack the next lock and reveal the logbook. Gamers might recall a famous “cheat code” to help them solve the final puzzle.
From silly to stealthy, _nokos_’ caches can be found across Japan’s Aichi region and may challenge common misconceptions of urban geocaches.
Treat every cache as a piece of art. Like an exhibit in a public space. I also love a little mischief and boldness — I especially love hiding caches in plain sight!” —_nokos_
_nokos_ also hosts a podcast, TFTC!! GEOCACHING RADIO, to share geocaching news, tips, interviews, and his joy for geocaching far and wide. In his own words:
Geocaching isn’t just a treasure hunt. It’s the ultimate entertainment with the irrational level of thrill and satisfaction that non-geocachers would never understand! There’s no winner, no loser. Finding more caches doesn’t make you “greater.” It’s a non-competitive world, where filling a grid doesn’t mean you’ve “leveled up.” That’s what I love about it. So come on, everyone! Make something crazy and full of love. Blow people’s minds. And bask in that mysterious feeling of fulfillment.” —_nokos_
