New leaderboard challenge: Making Memories

Signal the Frog® is feeling creative! To celebrate International Geocaching Day and 25 years of geocaching, he’s making a giant scrapbook filled with memories from cache finds and Events. But he needs your help—there are 25 million pages to fill! From July 21 through August 17, help Signal fill his scrapbook by finding caches, attending Events, and collecting Treasure. You can even earn new souvenirs along the way.

During Making Memories, we will use the leaderboard to track the community’s progress toward filling the 25 million pages of Signal’s Scrapbook. On the leaderboard, players will be able to see how many pages the global community has filled, available campaign souvenirs, and information about how many pages different geocaching actions generate.

Players can also share their progress and favorite geocaching moments on social media using the hashtag #MakingMemoriesGC.

As geocachers help fill Signal’s scrapbook, they’ll have three opportunities to earn souvenirs:

  • Crafty Cacher: earn this souvenir by completing the Making Memories Treasure collection.
  • Memory Maker: earn this souvenir by individually contributing 40 pages to Signal’s scrapbook.
  • Signal’s Scrapbook: If the global community fills 25,000,000 pages before Making Memories ends, all participants will receive this souvenir on August 18.

Find answers to some frequently asked questions below.

How do I participate?
From Monday, July 21, 2025 at noon UTC through August 17, 2025, find geocaches and Adventures, attend Events, and collect Treasures to fill the pages of Signal’s scrapbook with geocaching memories.

When does Making Memories start and when does it end?
Making Memories begins on July 21, 2025 at noon UTC and lasts through August 17, 2025.

How are Treasures involved in Making Memories and how can I collect them?
The day that Making Memories begins, July 21, we will release a new Making Memories Treasure collection. During the campaign, players can earn points for collecting Treasure from this collection.

The collection and souvenir will remain available after the campaign ends in August.

To start collecting these Treasures, cachers must have completed the Geocaching origins collection. Once a geocacher completes that collection, they can collect these seven Treasures by finding and logging any Event or any micro, small, or regular sized geocache with a difficulty between 1.5 and 4.

How do I contribute to filling the scrapbook and earning the Signal’s Scrapbook souvenir?
Geocachers can add to the scrapbook by finding geocaches and Adventures, attending Events, receiving Favorite points on owned geocaches, and collecting Treasure. The table above shows how many pages each geocaching action generates.

Where can I see how many pages of the scrapbook the community and I have filled so far?
Players can see the community’s page count and their individual contribution to that total on the leaderboard in the mobile app and on the website starting July 21.

Where can I see my souvenirs?
On the website you can view your souvenirs on the souvenir page linked on the dashboard, or on the Souvenirs section of your profile. In the Geocaching® app, you can see your souvenirs by tapping on the Souvenirs section in your profile.

The pages aren’t adding up correctly, help!

If you change a Write Note, DNF, or other log type to a Found it log, it will not be recognized for Making Memories.

Scenario 1: You logged on Monday, July 21 before noon UTC (convert to your local time here). We suggest that you wait to log until AFTER Monday noon UTC—which in some places like New Zealand is Tuesday at midnight. Otherwise, the points will not count.

Scenario 2: You saved a Draft on Monday, July 21 before noon UTC.
If you have already posted your logs, go to the log, select “View / Edit Log / Images,” then click the pen icon and “Submit Log Entry” on the website*. Your logs should now be counted towards your total.

*At this time, you can only edit your logs on Geocaching.com, not in the Geocaching® app.

What does UTC stand for?
Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) is the basis for civil time today. It is the time standard (not a time zone) commonly used across the world. You can convert UTC to your local time here.
