What have you been up to\u2014any fun geocaching adventures or projects since we last chatted?<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cProject\u201d is the operative word. Every year, the Texas Geocaching Association (TXGA) puts on a yearly Mega-Event in a different region of the state. As Central Texas Representative, I am responsible for putting on the 24th Annual Texas Challenge & Geocaching Festival (GCB4F75<\/a>). My team and I are up to our elbows in planning a Mega!<\/p>\n

Have you geocached anywhere new this year? Tell us everything!<\/strong><\/p>\n

I just came back from finishing up the counties of Colorado. The southwestern corner is both magically beautiful and horribly difficult to travel around. When I was in Washington, I realized that ferries were like end bosses in a video game. Well, so are the mountain passes of Colorado! I also feel like I got a better view of what I\u2019ve always considered \u201cski country.\u201d I was not especially impressed with Breckenridge<\/a> when I was there several years ago. Well, I got very different experiences from both Aspen and Telluride! And while I was out there, I dipped into two Utah counties because they were much more convenient for me from Colorado than Utah.<\/p>\n

HQ\u2019s geocaching challenge this year, Making Memories, is all about geocachers helping Signal fill his scrapbook with many geocaching memories. We\u2019re curious: what are your favorite geocaching memories? Which story do you love to retell whenever possible? <\/strong><\/p>\n

A big one for me was finally getting to sign<\/a> the Texas County Challenge, which is probably obvious since I seem to bring it up all the time! But, strangely enough, another big one for me was getting to see the World\u2019s Largest Ball of Twine<\/a>! Doing Infernal Device 2.0 (GC6XJQA<\/a>) with my daughters ranks up there as well. I literally could not have done it without them.<\/p>\n

As for my favorite story, I like to tell the one about the statue in Sanderson<\/a> that was lost and ransomed, but I find myself telling the one about being \u201cdetained\u201d by police<\/a> in Nuevo Leon a little more than I probably should\u2026<\/p>\n

When you look back through your geocaching gallery, which image brings back the best memories? <\/strong><\/p>\n

With all the photos I\u2019ve taken of caches and cachers, the one that I always come back to is one of my daughters when they were little, holding CenTex Prime (GCEF<\/a>) when they were 9 and 7 (full disclosure: I am terribly biased towards them since they were my favorite muggles and are now my favorite cachers).<\/p>\n

What does \u201ccommunity\u201d mean to you when it comes to geocaching?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Everyone has probably heard the proverb \u201cIf you want to go fast, go alone; if you want to go far, go together\u201d or some variation of it. I tend to be on the \u201cfast\u201d side of the equation, but there is a value to the \u201cfar\u201d side of it as well. I probably wouldn\u2019t have gotten this far if there wasn\u2019t a community I could reach out to for help with finds or puzzles. Some of my trips have been made more fun by traveling with others who are as interested in counties as I am.<\/p>\n

And, of course, no one person, no matter how energetic or able, can put on a Mega alone. I wouldn\u2019t have done many of the things I have done if it weren\u2019t for others pointing the way. I try my best to point the way for other people as well. So, to everyone who reads this, I issue this request: go to an Event or host one yourself! It doesn\u2019t matter if you\u2019ve found one cache or one hundred thousand! This is how we get better at what we do. We learn from others, we tell what we know, we go together. There are a lot of us out there, so even if there are not many cachers around, you\u2019re not alone. You\u2019re never alone!<\/p>\n

It wouldn\u2019t be \u201cMaking Memories\u201d without celebrating memories of geocaching milestones! Which geocaching milestones or achievements are you most proud of?<\/strong><\/p>\n

I think the biggest thing that I\u2019ve accomplished (other than just finishing my tenth state) is logging my ten thousandth cache! I had to spend a couple of months zealously watching my cache finds so I could log it at \ud83c\udf8a\ud83c\udf89Texas 23rd Challenge\ud83c\udf8225thB-Day BlockParty\ud83c\udf8a\ud83c\udf89(GCAMM1H<\/a>) in Floresville<\/a>!<\/p>\n

Who in the geocaching community inspires you\u2014and why?<\/strong><\/p>\n

I feel like I live in a city of superlative cachers (yes, some of you live in Georgetown, not Austin\u2014but you get my point), so there are many whom I could put on the list. A lot of them are already my friends, and I mention them frequently in my adventures, but I\u2019m not just going to list the usual suspects. I\u2019d like to give a shoutout to RJ and VW<\/a>. I was lucky enough to meet them in Longview a few years ago, and I am secretly in awe of them because they have already accomplished what I aim to do: cache in all 3,144 counties and county equivalents in the U.S.! Not only is it impressive that they have done it, but they are a reminder to me that it is possible. If they can do it, so can I!<\/p>\n

What else are you looking forward to for the rest of 2025?<\/strong><\/p>\n

On a personal level, I\u2019m hoping to get in at least one more good trip this year. Even though I traveled in both 2024 and 2025, I was shaken to realize it had been a full year between trips. How am I going to finish all the counties in the country that way? On a more organizational level, TXGA is putting on our second annual CITO Across Texas. In 2024, with the help of volunteers across all the regions, we had 30 CITOs attended by 300 cachers all over the state at the same time. On September 20, 2025, we\u2019re hoping to break that record! And, of course, if anyone anywhere else would like to host a CITO in solidarity, we\u2019d be more than happy for you to join us! CITO Across America or CITO Across The Earth both sound great to me!<\/p>\n
