Imagine a trip through the desert as a weary traveler. The harsh sun beats down on you as you struggle through the sand. Heat radiates in seemingly every direction. At last, you spy what appears to be a beautiful green tree on the horizon. Could it be a mirage? With each step, your confidence builds as its impressive foliage comes into full view!<\/p>\n

Join us as we travel to Bahrain to find its oldest geocache, the Tree of Life (GCP4ZC<\/a>)!<\/p>\n

Often overshadowed by its neighbors, Saudi Arabia and Qatar, Bahrain is a Middle Eastern nation with a small physical footprint but big opportunities for adventure. Visitors to Bahrain can begin their journey in the capital and largest city, Manama. Explorers to this part of the world should expect heat year-round. Be sure to pack your sun protection and plenty of water for the journey!<\/p>\n

Our Geocache of the Week takes us away from the hustle and bustle of urban life in Bahrain and into the desert. Although the quickest way to the cache may be a simple 40-minute drive from the center of the capital, some adventure-seeking travelers can choose a more traditional mode of transportation in this region: camels! With a leap, you mount your new trusty travel partner and get ready for the journey of a lifetime!<\/p>\n

After a brief but memorable ride, your group finally spots the green dot on the horizon, standing apart in color and shape from the sandy brush. It\u2019s the Tree of Life<\/a>! Likely planted in the 16th century, it\u2019s not entirely clear how the tree survives in such a punishing climate. Scientists estimate the tree has roots as deep as 160 feet (50 meters), which likely plays a major role in its continued survival.<\/p>\n

In the same way the tree has blossomed in the desert, a blossom amid the sand, so too is there a geocache, amidst the chaotic world, waiting to be found by you.
\nA shiny glint catches your attention as you spy something amid the rocks. Could it be the elusive cache? Your geosenses tingle as you remove a sandy rock guarding a hidden crevice. Wait, there it is\u2026the cache! Elated, you grab the container and check back at the tree. It was right all along!<\/p>\n
