Geocaching is a real-world, outdoor adventure\u00a0that is happening all the time, all around the world.\u00a0To play, participants use the Geocaching app and\/or a GPS device\u00a0to\u00a0navigate\u00a0to cleverly hidden containers called geocaches. There are\u00a0millions of geocaches in 190 countries waiting to be discovered\u2014there are probably even some near you right now.<\/p>\n

Geocaching started in early 2000. When the website launched,\u00a0only\u00a075 geocaches had been hidden. Today, there are over\u00a03 million geocaches and millions of active geocachers playing the game. Geocaches come in all different shapes, sizes, and difficulties and are hidden in both rural and urban settings.<\/span><\/p>\n

Geocaching offers something for everyone, from families with children to retirees. Some\u00a0geocachers\u00a0play the game to see how many total \u201cfinds\u201d they can get, while others play to see how many new states or countries they can visit. Geocaching is a great way to find remarkable destinations that you would not have otherwise discovered. It is also an excellent education tool and an excuse to get off the couch.<\/span><\/p>\n

Go play.<\/strong> To get started, create a free basic account and use Geocaching.com or the free Geocaching\u00ae app<\/a> to search for geocaches near your location. Whether you are off to find your first geocache or your ten-thousandth, the Geocaching\u00ae app is your ultimate geocaching toolbox. <\/span><\/p>\n

Once you find a\u00a0geocache, open it up\u00a0and sign the logbook.\u00a0<\/span>You may discover some\u00a0trade or\u00a0swag items (small toys, keychains, trinkets) inside the geocache. The general rule of thumb is if you take something, leave something of\u00a0equal or greater value. Then, place\u00a0the container back exactly how you found it and share your experience online with the rest of the geocaching community.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
