They&#8217;re all around us.<\/strong> Some nerds are into geocaching. Some nerds are into Star Wars. And some nerds are into both. A quick Google search for, &#8220;geocaching Star Wars&#8221; returns\u00a0multiple interstellar geocaches, bookmark lists, blogs, vlogs, Trackables, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.geocaching.com\/geocache\/GC1WC88_calipers-the-biggest-geocaching-star-wars-geek?guid=cbc2dcaf-6f60-47e5-8bd5-8121b7ccbeca\">just about anything<\/a>. Here are seven geocaches you can visit\u00a0near filming locations\u2014one for each episode of the series.<\/p>\n<p>So if you <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=HJWr7nAt8ik\">love<\/a> Star Wars&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>We know.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>1. It is often referred to as\u00a0the, &#8220;Italian Versailles&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>The cache listing page doesn&#8217;t give too much information, but many geocachers write wonderful logs after visiting this spectacular location. Said geocacher\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.geocaching.com\/profile\/?guid=55b5a1fc-f799-4ae0-a68b-ffbdb35727d2\">Mouseblue<\/a>, &#8220;Found whilst visiting the huge palace and beautiful gardens. Immediately recognized where Star Wars and Mission Impossible had been filmed <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.geocaching.com\/images\/icons\/icon_smile.gif\" alt=\"\" align=\"middle\" border=\"0\" \/> Hired bikes to cycle round the gardens as so big. Watch out for biting bugs at cache site. TFTC&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>2. Lush, long, sweeping shots of the two star-crossed lovers spending time\u00a0together was supposed to make us believe they had fallen in love. Did it work?<\/p>\n<p>Regardless, according to the listing, the area isn&#8217;t great for phone reception. For that reason, the cache description page recommends looking at the spoiler photos <em>before<\/em> you go searching for the cache. But hey,\u00a0there are way worse places to be stuck with no cell phone coverage.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>3. Although Episode III was filmed almost entirely in the studio, many exotic locations were used for\u00a0background shots and served as\u00a0inspiration for backdrop artists. <a href=\"http:\/\/starwars.wikia.com\/wiki\/Mount_Etna\">Mount Etna&#8217;s lava flow<\/a> gave an Oscar-worthy performance as the planet\u00a0Mustafar during the light saber duel between the two Jedi.<\/p>\n<p>According to the geocache listing, &#8220;Etna is Europe&#8217;s highest active volcano and when visiting Sicily you should take the opportunity to visit her. It is an experience to stay clear at the top where the ground is warm and the hiss and smoke from several craters.&#8221; No worries about us getting too close!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>4. It&#8217;s known in geocaching circles too as this geocache was once featured as the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.geocaching.com\/blog\/2013\/05\/may-the-fourth-be-with-you-star-wars-cache-gc2fdrq-geocache-of-the-week\/\">Geocache of the Week<\/a>. The blog post says:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Even without the presence of Tusken Raiders, the journey to this difficulty 1, terrain 5 geocache can be quite treacherous. Geocachers will have to travel through miles of sand dunes to reach the town. However, once you arrive in the town, finding the geocache won\u2019t be too difficult\u2014just make sure to use your cloaking device to prevent muggles from catching on. Geocachers from around the world have traveled to this iconic location to see a piece of galactic history. Geocacher <a href=\"http:\/\/www.geocaching.com\/profile\/?guid=6574daec-1cff-4083-b5f6-c83216596041\" rel=\"nofollow\">s1las <\/a>wrote, \u201cMy son and me found the force and the Cache\u2026Our first overseas cache its the best yet TFTC.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>5. But geocachers have\u00a0claimed this fairly remote location too.\u00a0You can see evidence of this in the top left photo where someone actually brought Star Wars toys up to Finse and placed them in the snow to hilariously\u00a0recreate the epic battle scene. This is a fairly quick train n&#8217; grab cache. \ud83d\ude09<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>6. Prepare to drive, prepare to hike, and prepare to be blown away by the majestic beauty and size of the giant redwood trees.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>7. Episode VII: The Force Awakens<br \/>\n<\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Skellig Michael, Ireland<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Luke\u2019s hideaway,\u00a0 Ahch-To<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_33233\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-33233\" style=\"width: 650px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.geocaching.com\/geocache\/GC4K77T_skellig-michael\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-33233\" src=\"https:\/\/www.geocaching.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/7-Force-Collage.jpg\" alt=\"7 Force Collage\" width=\"650\" height=\"650\" srcset=\"https:\/\/d3mo08i005h0zn.cloudfront.net\/blog\/uploads\/2016\/01\/7-Force-Collage.jpg 2000w, https:\/\/d3mo08i005h0zn.cloudfront.net\/blog\/uploads\/2016\/01\/7-Force-Collage-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/d3mo08i005h0zn.cloudfront.net\/blog\/uploads\/2016\/01\/7-Force-Collage-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/d3mo08i005h0zn.cloudfront.net\/blog\/uploads\/2016\/01\/7-Force-Collage-1024x1024.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 650px) 100vw, 650px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-33233\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Skellig Michael has an Earthcache (GC4K77T), and a Multi-cache (GC4B2JR)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.techtimes.com\/articles\/121308\/20160104\/now-we-know-what-planet-luke-skywalker-appears-on-at-the-end-of-star-wars-the-force-awakens.htm\">The Tech Times<\/a> has an article about this location, saying, &#8220;&#8230;the setting for Ahch-To is actually Skellig Michael, which is an island just off the coast of Ireland. The ruins there are an ancient monastery where Celtic monks once lived solitary lives, separated from the rest of the world. Strangely enough, this coincides with Luke&#8217;s story, who moved there to live the life of a hermit.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>There are actually two geocaches on this remote island\u2014an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.geocaching.com\/geocache\/GC4K77T_skellig-michael?guid=f7926a82-7c10-4b3a-8456-e0d1dd90ed75\">Earthcache<\/a> and a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.geocaching.com\/geocache\/GC4B2JR_skellig-michael\">Multi-cache<\/a>. To reach Skellig Michael, you&#8217;ll need\u00a0to hire a licensed boat operator in the area and be prepared for any type of weather and terrain.
