While \u201cthe largest outdoor treasure hunt\u201d sounds simple enough, we can admit there is quite a learning curve to mastering the art of geocaching. That\u2019s why we\u2019re improving the onboarding experience for new geocachers with our latest Geocaching\u00ae app update<\/strong>. <\/span><\/p>\n

These changes will not affect geocachers who have previously found and logged a cache, but will provide training to get new users up to speed with the game of geocaching, the app<\/a>, and best practices while out in the field. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

What this will look like:<\/strong>
\n<\/span>For players have never logged a geocache, a new overview of caches in their area will be displayed along with a recommended first cache to find. The cache details page will expand so that the player can learn more about the hide. Players can choose to disregard the cache and choose another, or proceed to navigating to the recommended geocache. After the first find (smiley), the geocacher will have the opportunity to receive up to two more geocache suggestions.<\/span><\/p>\n

How it works:<\/strong>
\nAlthough the criteria for the recommended cache can change and improve over time, the idea is to offer a great introduction to geocaching. In addition to other criteria, we\u2019ll be making sure the most recent log is not a Did Not Find (DNF), Needs Maintenance (NM), or Needs Archived (NA), that there is no NM attribute, that the cache is not locked, disabled, or archived, and that the user has not already found the cache (when on the second and third suggestions).<\/span><\/p>\n
