Many geocachers love to set goals and achieve big milestones. One geocacher, Max Storms (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.geocaching.com\/profile\/?guid=a998c85a-d16d-438c-8583-2dfdf19480cc\">Capraibex96<\/a>), had a desire to achieve new heights with a little help from some friends. There\u2019s an attribute that you see on most T1 urban caches, \u2018wheelchair accessible\u2019, that no longer applies to Max.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">His story starts in a small village in the Netherlands, in the province of Limburg. A few years ago, as Max was commuting to school, his bus driver invited the students to learn about geocaching hands-on after the school day.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_50082\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-50082\" style=\"width: 656px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-50082 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.geocaching.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/max11-656x437.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"656\" height=\"437\" srcset=\"https:\/\/d3mo08i005h0zn.cloudfront.net\/blog\/uploads\/2017\/11\/max11-656x437.jpg 656w, https:\/\/d3mo08i005h0zn.cloudfront.net\/blog\/uploads\/2017\/11\/max11-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/d3mo08i005h0zn.cloudfront.net\/blog\/uploads\/2017\/11\/max11.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 656px) 100vw, 656px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-50082\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Max gets an FTF!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cFirst my mum had an account (Teamstorms) and while she had an account I didn&#8217;t know if I would get excited for geocaching. But it was so fun for me! I decided to have an account by myself and began geocaching on my own. Because I can&#8217;t search for most of the geocaches on my own I started caching together with my mum and my sister. Now I cache with friends, buddies, and sometimes alone (with a helping arm\/grabber).\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Since December 2013 Max has become an avid geocacher and this past summer he was encroaching on his 1,000th find. Looking for inspiration for his 1,000th cache, Max reached out to his Facebook friends for help.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Rob Stevelmans (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.geocaching.com\/profile\/?guid=06a57ef0-d36b-4b60-b32a-44be48f92a2f\">Team DeRoLuCa<\/a>) caught wind of Max\u2019s 1,000th find and wanted to do something special for him. Max and Team DeRoLuCa first met at a geocaching event and over time they continued to bump into each other. After hours of strategizing, the two came up with a plan.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">First things first: Max\u2019s mom needed to approve of the daring plan.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Team DeRoLuCa invited Max\u2019s mom and sister to the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/coord.info\/GC5QHZ0\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">T5 cache<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> they had in mind so the two could try it themselves.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Max&#8217;s family loved the experience. How did it feel to be invited by them on an adventure? What thoughts did you have?<\/strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-50067 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/www.geocaching.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/max6.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"307\" height=\"230\" srcset=\"https:\/\/d3mo08i005h0zn.cloudfront.net\/blog\/uploads\/2017\/11\/max6.jpg 448w, https:\/\/d3mo08i005h0zn.cloudfront.net\/blog\/uploads\/2017\/11\/max6-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 307px) 100vw, 307px\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I liked the idea that I&#8217;m going into a tree and finally could do an official T5. On the moment\u00a0DeRoLuCa said that it is possible and they would do everything for me to make it happen I was very happy and I will enjoy that idea. My mum was also happy for me but she thought about my muscles (because my muscles can&#8217;t hold anything because I have a disability with my muscles in my arms and legs).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>What is your biggest motivation or what inspires you?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Let people know what I can do from out a wheelchair. I was also happy that much people came, that give me the feeling that this was seriously a big historic moment. By signing the logbook my only thought was, \u201cYES I DID IT!&#8217;\u201d And when everyone cheered it was more like, \u201cSuper fun and everyone is happy for me so I&#8217;m happy too!\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>What advice would you give to anyone who might be nervous about finding a T5 for the first time? Was this your first T5?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When you will finding a T5 you can speak with others about their experiences. And then if you\u2019re interested then go for it! But for the first time, ask to somebody (with climbing experiences) to help you just in case.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>What&#8217;s your next geocaching goal?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At the tree climbing event some people asked me what I would do for my next achievement (2000th). With a little help from his friends Max was able to enter the tree and log the cache.
