To complete the challenge, you must fill your Jasmer grid by finding caches <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">placed<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in every month since geocaching began in May 2000. As of the time of this blog publication, there have been 222 months since the beginning of geocaching, which means you must find 222 caches to qualify. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The first Jasmer Challenge appeared in California in 2008 (<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.geocaching.com\/geocache\/GC1GBC1_the-jasmer-challenge-northern-california-edition\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">GC1GBC1<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">). It has since been duplicated all over the world. If you\u2019re unclear on how the Jasmer Challenge works or want some tips on how to qualify, you found the right place.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Jasmer Challenge inevitably becomes more difficult as time passes. First, because with each new month, there is another required cache to find. Also, there are fewer active caches available from the early years. To see for yourself:<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Conduct a worldwide search and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.geocaching.com\/play\/search?ot=4&amp;sort=PlaceDate&amp;asc=True\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">order the results by the \u2018Placed On\u2019 category<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Scroll past the caches with bogus \u2018Placed On\u2019 dates (example: everything prior to May 11, 2000).<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You will see there are only seven remaining caches that were placed in May 2000, which was the first month of geocaching. <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The pickings are even slimmer for August 2000, with just four remaining active caches.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">So, you better get started! There are a number of ways to do this: <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Conduct a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.geocaching.com\/play\/search\">search<\/a> on Geocaching.com and order the results by \u2018Placed On\u2019 date.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Run a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.geocaching.com\/pocket\/\">Pocket query<\/a> on Geocaching.com and use the \u2018Placed During\u2019 box to limit the results to a specific month. <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There are other options, including Project-GC\u2019s \u2018<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/project-gc.com\/Maps\/MapHiddenMonth\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Map &#8211; Hidden Month<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2019 tool. It shows you a map with available caches from your missing months, along with multiple filters.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">All that\u2019s left is to find the caches! I know, I know, easier said than done. Since August 2000 is the most difficult month for most people, here\u2019s information about the four remaining active caches from that month:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Potters Pond (<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.geocaching.com\/geocache\/GC3B_potters-pond\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">GC3B<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, Utah, USA). Located in a high mountain valley (approx 9200 feet elevation), it\u2019s about 2.5 hours to drive from Salt Lake City. The last 11 miles or so are on dirt road. (Helpful driving information is contained in <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.geocaching.com\/seek\/log.aspx?LUID=946712bf-fc6d-43a2-8513-ae40034fa50d\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">this log<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> by a Utah community volunteer reviewer.) Once you make it all that way, the hike from parking to ground zero feels relatively easy. It\u2019s a nice, big cache in a forest. This one isn\u2019t quite as secluded as Potters Pond. It\u2019s just under an hour\u2019s drive from Atlanta. But as the cache title implies, you\u2019ll enjoy great views of a beautiful lake. This cache is way out there, at least, relative to major metropolitan areas. You\u2019re looking at a three hour drive from Detroit, five hours from Chicago, or \u201conly\u201d two hours if you\u2019re coming from Grand Rapids, Michigan. I would argue it\u2019s the least accessible of the August 2000 caches. The last bit of road gets soft and sandy, and parking is about 0.1 mile from ground zero. This is certainly the easiest of the August 2000 caches to access from a big city. It\u2019s only about a 20 minute drive from the center of Stockholm.
