We are entering what is affectionately known as \u201cMud Season\u201d in the northern hemisphere and \u201cStick Season\u201d in the southern hemisphere. The time of year where the ground is thawing from winter making every dirt road and trail supple, and where Fall is fulfilling its namesake as the leaves fall to the ground leaving bare trees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It might not sound like a good time to go geocaching, but it is. There are things you need to be aware of, such as muddy roads that are easy to get stuck in, and that the weather can change on a dime so you need to pack layers, but there are plenty of reasons to head out geocaching during the shoulder season and we\u2019re sharing three of them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Have the trails to yourself<\/strong><br>During these in between-seasons, trails tend to quiet down. People don\u2019t quite have outdoor activities on their minds yet, kids are in school after spring break or summer vacation, and the weather is quick to change. This also means it\u2019s usually easier to park at local trailheads, parklands, beaches, and more. It\u2019s not an exact <a href=\"https:\/\/www.geocaching.com\/play\/leaderboard?utm_source=geocaching.com&amp;utm_medium=blog&amp;utm_campaign=SoD\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.geocaching.com\/play\/leaderboard?utm_source=geocaching.com&amp;utm_medium=blog&amp;utm_campaign=SoD\">science<\/a>, but less crowded trails equals more finds, right?!<br><br><\/li><li><strong>Enjoy the view<\/strong><br>While transitioning temperatures can make the weather less predictable, the variable conditions can lead to some stunning landscapes! Wildflowers begin to bloom in the spring and the leaves turn to vibrant colors in the fall. Use Attributes like \u201cScenic view nearby\u201d to make a List and hit the trails to enjoy the colors from foliage and flowers alike!<br><br><\/li><li><strong>Get the best of both worlds<\/strong><br>The most marvelous part of the shoulder season is that you can enjoy the best of both worlds.
