Caches created to be done on snowshoes or skis in the Pacific Northwest. Focus is on Washington state, with a few in Oregon, Idaho, and Montana sprinkled in.

Good resources:

  Oregon, Klamath County. Moderate hike on snowshoes or XC skis. May not be findable in deep snow conditions (per owner, 1/08). Could also do longer trek to find second puzzle cache, A. Spring (GCWE3D).

  I-90 corridor, Snoqualmie area (exit 54), Gold Creek. Placed for snowshoe access. Difficult, potentially risky climb.

  Snohomish, Mountain Loop Highway. Easy snowshoe, 2.5 miles round trip, 450-ft elevation gain. Great for beginners; no bushwhacking involved. (hydnsek: snowshoe FTF 1/18/08)

  North Central Washington, Hwy 20 corridor, Loup Loup area. XC ski cache, 3-mile round trip. Companion cache to Two-fer the Trouble.  

GCTEGE Traditional Cache Gold Creek Arches
  I-90 corridor, Snoqualmie area (exit 54), Gold Creek. Flat, 3-mile round trip from the Gold Creek parking area. Nice combo with A Little Birdie and Snowshoe 101. (hydnsek: 8/16/06, no snow; 1/10/10 snowshoe)

GC1036Y Traditional Cache Grumblecache IV: Caching Through the Snow
  Mt Baker ski area (Hwy 542). Strenuous snowshoe hike; roughly 5.5 miles round trip with 1200-ft elevation gain from Heather Meadows parking. In summer, it's an easy stroll from Artist Point parking. (hydnsek: snowshoe FTF 1/13/07)  

GCTFBT Traditional Cache Hollow Tree
  Hwy 2 corridor, east of Stevens Pass. Fairly easy, 3-mile round trip, partly cross-country, a couple of streams to cross (good log-based snow bridges). Placed as a snowshoe cache, but might be buried in high-snowfall conditions. Nice beginner hike. (hydnsek: snowshoe 2/24/07)  

GC18NXG Traditional Cache I Saw This Hollow Tree
  Hwy 2 corridor, east of Stevens Pass. Short, easy snowshoe. Near the trail turnoff for Hollow Tree cache. (hydnsek: snowshoe 1/24/09)  

GCR3CW Traditional Cache J&S's KPL Cache
  I-90 corridor, Snoqualmie area (exit 54). Six-mile round trip. Accessible in snow, per Feb 2009 snowshoe HOTM.

  Hwy 2 corridor, south of Skykomish, Miller River area. Easy snowshoe hike, about 1 mile round trip, level road. Two other snowshoe-accessible caches in the area. (hydnsek: snowshoe 2/2/08)  

GCMMED Traditional Cache Mohawk Falls and Mine
  Hwy 2 corridor, south of Skykomish, Miller River area. Good snowshoe hike, about 2.5 miles round trip (?) with 300 ft elevation gain. Two other snowshoe-accessible caches in the area.

  North Central Washington, Hwy 20 corridor, Methow Valley. On community XC ski trail. (hydnsek, 8/29/07, no snow)  

GC104GY Traditional Cache Nordic Rest Stop
  Oregon, Hoodoo ski area in Cascades. A 3.5-mile moderate XC ski or snowshoe.  

GC2KX9X Traditional Cache Out with the Old (Snowshoe Cache)
  I-90 corridor, Snoqualmie area (exit 54), Gold Creek. Placed for snowshoe access. 4.5-mile round trip; elevation gain 1,320 ft.

  Snowshoe area off Hwy 2 near Peshastin.  

GC19BZ6 Traditional Cache Sassey goes Farther
  Snohomish, Mountain Loop Highway. Easy snowshoe, about 3 miles round trip, 450+ ft elevation gain. Great for beginners; no bushwhacking involved. Just a bit beyond the As Far as I Care to Go, in the Snow!! cache.

  Off Hwy 12 east of Packwood.  

GCM1V2 Traditional Cache Skyline Lake
  Hwy 2 corridor, Stevens Pass. Strenuous, 2.5-mile round trip, elevation gain 1100 ft. Great snowshoe, nice lake to walk on (in winter!), but cache not easily accessible in moderate/heavy snow seasons, as it's placed near the ground and the location gets several feet of snow, which can become quite icy. (hydnsek: snowshoe DNF 3/12/07; cache buried in ice)  

GCME5F Traditional Cache Skyline the Top
  Hwy 2 corridor, Stevens Pass. Strenuous, 3-mile RT, elevation gain ~1500 ft. Warning: avalanche area.
