In my opinion, a really good cache needs at least one of two things:

1. An clever hide, puzzle, or something else the cache owner has done to make the cache hunt interesting. There are a LOT of ways to do this.

2. An interesting location. This is often something scenic but the location can be interesting or noteworthy for other reasons.

This list covers my favorite examples of interesting locations. I expect that it is incomplete but I'll update it as needed.

  To me this felt like a hidden memorial. A unique location.

  Two beautiful areas, one for each stage of this Earthcache.

  Fantastic views all around, including San Francisco.  

GCJNJK Traditional Cache Alum Rock Overlook
  Walruz has a knack for good overlooks like this one.  

GCQ9QT Traditional Cache Battery with a view
  Angel Island is certainly one of my favorite places to go caching, it's just a spectacular location. This cache is located at just one of the many wonderful views, from this side looking at San Francisco, Marin, and the Golden Gate Bridge.  

GCYNR9 Unknown Cache Bay Area Quadrangle Challenge
  This one is all about location, or rather, locations. It's really a wonderful cache because it nudges you to explore new areas all over the bay area. I have wonderful memories from my travels to complete this challenge and rate it among my favorite geocaching experiences.  

GCPVF2 Traditional Cache Big Spring - Lost and Found
  Pretty trail and stream, nice overlook of the river with Shasta in the background, cool volcanic geology, and a spectacular waterfall you walk behind. All on about a five minute walk, wow! Highly recommended.  

GC163YR Traditional Cache Bridge Over Little Sur
  I really enjoy Old Coast Road, and any cache is a good excuse to come drive it again.

  A rare and wonderful location, easily one of my favorites.  

GCC3A5 Traditional Cache By the Lake
  A nice scenic pond location, particularly nice in winter when it is foggy.  

GC4B9 Virtual Cache 'C' Is For Cave Dwellers
  The Pinnacles are simply a spectacular place to visit.  

GCN9D6 Traditional Cache Devils' Release: The Ark
  A nice relaxing area.  

GCMB6J Letterbox Hybrid Don't Take the Stamp!
  A great example of a Santa Cruz woods hike.  

GCXA5C Traditional Cache Eagle Rock Eyrie
  It's nice to get to a cache site and say "Wow! This place sooooo needed a cache." The rest of the hike is also nice and the area at the top with the fire lookout tower are pretty cool too.  

GCFEFC Multi-cache El Toro
  Wonderful 360-degree views are your reward for making the amazingly steep climb.  

GCH4VN Traditional Cache Equinox Sky Camp
  Another lovely overlook, requiring a good climb as many of them do.  

GCK85Y Multi-cache Famous Yreka
  This one gets the nod because I find the small town of Yreka so pleasant and interesting. Try the graveyard and railroad caches here as well.  

GC870B Virtual Cache Gem of Big Sur
  A perfect view down to what must be one of the most beautiful coves on earth.  

GCH41Z Traditional Cache Girlie Pants' Cache
  A great hike through the woods.  

GC54CD Virtual Cache Hoover Dam Virtual
  Hoover Dam is an impressive location and benchmark heaven. Be sure to take the tour.
