Geocache Description:

The Waterway Man
Inside the lid of this microcache is a word which you can use to find the cache “The Elves”.

The waterway man in Danish popular belief is a creature living in small streams and brooks from where he lures. Normally he is not visible but it is told that every year someone drowns in the stream. As time passes and noone has drowned, song, music and a voice is heard from the stream saying “time has come but not the man”. Shortly after it is not unusual to see someone come running towards the stream, and even if you try to stop him he will drown himself in the stream, because he was called. Nowadays we use the term Waterway Man for those who maintain waterways and secure the flow.

Hans Christian Andersen writes about the waterway man in his fairy tale “The bell deep”:
Outside the old monastry is the deepest place called the bell deep. There lives the waterway man. He sleeps during the day when the sun shines through the water but by moonlight and on starry nights he appears. He is very old. Grandma heard about him from her grandma, she says he lives a lonely life. He has no one to speak with except the big, old church bell. Once it hang in the church tower, but now there is no trace of neither tower nor church.
