How Geocaching Works

Please note Use of services is subject to the terms and conditions in our disclaimer.

Geocache Description:

Located at 1100 feet above sea level, this cache takes you to a scenic outlook on a circle of the Hubbard / Perkins conservation area adjacent to Fahnestock park. Some parts of this trail are steep, rocky and slippery. Wading may be required. Please be aware that this is both tick and bear country.

Located on the Red East Mountain Loop, you're looking for an ammo can. There are several ways you might come here but going via Half Round, Round Hill, and Round to the East will offer you a chance to experience the area.

As with the other caches in this locale, a cardio workout will be provided free-of-charge. Also, do note, that you're going to have to cross over some streams, either by logs or stepping stones, so wear waterproof footwear just to be safe.

The cache is located at an excellent point to take a break and to enjoy the panoramic view. As the cache is within 20 feet of the trail, please resist any and all temptation to bushwhack and keep to the marked trails. If you are making a circle of the area (recommended) then making this cache the last on an anti-clockwise loop, would be your best bet. The best times to visit this cache for the view are between October and May. At other times, keep your eyes peeled as you walk along the ridge.

The initial contents of the cache included some first aid supplies, tape measure, calculator keyring, hand-warmers, some batteries (please take only what you need) and, of course, various Things Of Pooh. The FTF prize is the ubiquitous Winnie The Pooh Paperback.

For various hiking options, please see Round to The East, Round Hill and the Half Round.

Parking coordinates are listed in The Half Round.

A roll of honour for the first dozen or so that find all four caches, via the loop, will be kept here.
