BREVE HISTÓRIA
«A
história do Solar cruza-se com a de Eça de
Queirós.
Foi lá que o escritor conheceu aquela que viria a ser sua mulher,
D. Emília de Castro Pamplona, filha do 4º Conde de Resende, D.
António Benedito de Castro e de D. Maria Pamplona Carneiro Rangel
de Figueiroa, dama honorária da Rainha D. Maria II.
Com uma planta em "L" de dois pisos, sobressai na construção o
estilo setecentista. O emolduramento das janelas e portas do alçado
da parte norte é típico da época barroca.
Em 1984 o Solar foi adquirido pela Câmara Municipal de Gaia e desde
1987, funciona nesta residência a Casa Municipal da Cultura, com o
Museu de Arqueologia e de Antropologia e o Arquivo Histórico
Municipal. Este espaço apresenta um espólio valiosíssimo,
integrando alguns objectos com cerca de 4.000
anos.» |

BRIEF
INTRODUCTION
«José Maria Eça de Queirós or Queiroz (November 25, 1845 - August
16, 1900) is generally considered to be the greatest Portuguese
writer in the realist style, and one of the great figures of
European 19th century fiction. Zola considered him to be far
greater than Flaubert. Others rank him with Dickens, Balzac and
Tolstoy. Eça never officially rejected Catholicism, but was very
critical of the Catholic Church of his time, as is evident in his
novels.
This
place is where he met his wife, Emília de
Castro Pamplona, daughter of the 4th Count of
Resende.» |

enter the house (you don't have to in order to find the cache),

don't have to go inside the building in order to collect the

found in the garden (the entrance in the garden is free, but beware
of the the opening hours)

physical cache is about 2km away from the building and is also an
interesting place, in the Canelas mountains, with panoramic views
