Jurien Shack Legacy 30/07/2013 Cache replaced with Ammo box, new photos added and contents refreshed This Cache is an historical one and is well worth finding to see the “before and after” photos of the Squatters Shacks in the Jurien Bay area. We built our shack in July 1987 And had 14 years of enjoyment and holidays in it. All the Shacks were pulled down in the area by 31 July 2001 The government and the local shire have deemed the shacks had to go and the area redeveloped or earmarked for other uses.
The areas south of Jurien were given an extension to the deadline until the construction of the coastal road is completed.
We have made a Cache directly behind the site that was our shack and with a marvelous view of the Sandland Island nature reserve and bay. Its placed under a large flat rock. Take care not to hurt yourself while lifting it.
It was one of our rituals to see the sun set over the ocean each night while enjoying a cool beer from our kerosene refrigerator with the smell of the wood stove and the aroma of a leg of Pork or lamb roasting in the oven.
We have taken some panorama photos and laminated them for safekeeping in the Cache (please leave them for the next people to see as well) I can e-mail copies of the pictures to you if you request.
We hope you can get some sort of feeling as to what it was like before you saw it and can pick the changes and recovery of the plant life and tracks in the area.
At the time of placing,2001: Some items in the Cache include…a cork from our last Champagne Breakfast, some kids collector cards, and 35c that someone really wanted to contribute to the cause and other things. Contents have changed over time ...2013 Have fun. Lyn Pat and Nathan
