Gruenthal, or Grunthal as we now know it, is located about 20 minutes SW of Steinbach. Gruenthal, (which is german for Green Valley) got it's name because when entering the town at the west end, you would go over a small hill and would give the impression you were going down into a valley. If you are to travel towards the park, you will go up an incline right in front of the old CottonWood Corner Game Farm. This hill used to wrap around the town.
Grunthal came into being in the year 1876. A few homesteads were established in areas where trees were abundant, a stony countryside with a creek for fishing was always near, and winding sandy trails barely wide enough for two teams of horses, were well traveled. Business owners set up shops along main street in the old townsite of Grunthal which is now known as Church Ave. Grunthal belonged to the eight townships of land reserved for mennonite settlers, most of whom immigrated to Canada from Russia to seek freedom of religion. These settlements were known as the "East Reserve".
We now claim to have one of the best motocross tracks in Manitoba. Grunthal Centennial Raceway is, in fact, probably one of the best in western Canada. Come for a visit this summer and check out the races.
Now, as for the stash, this is a small cache containing some pins, a log book and pencil and a FTF prize.
Best of luck to you, and Happy Hunting
