HAYTOR VIEWS (6) - HOLWELL QUARRY
How Geocaching Works
Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions in our disclaimer
This cache is part of our Haytor view series which includes areas all within sight of Haytor
The cache can be found very close to an old part of the tramway which once served five quarries on Haytor down. Today it now provides about two miles of fairly easy walking.
The line, the first railway in Devon, was opened in 1820 and was used to transport the quarried stone to the canal at Teigngrace. The remains of the old granite rail are visible along the length of this walk. The cache itself is hidden just off the path amongst the rocks, and very close to the entrance to the quarry. The views from the cache site on a clear day are fantastic
