Geocache Description:

A two-stage multi-cache with a magnetic key-hide final stage.

This is a two-stage multi-cache that starts at the historical marker for the Elite Cafe. The marker is right at the entrance to the cafe, and can be easy to miss.

This is the fourteenth in the series "McLennan County History."

The first Elite cafe opened in downtown Waco in 1919 and was acquired by the Greek immigrant Colias family in 1920. The Colias brothers opened this Elite cafe in 1941 on "The Circle," a traffic hub built on Waco's suburban edge in the early 1930's. A highly recognized local landmark, and one of the best remaining regional examples of mid-20th century roadside architecture, the building exhibits a distincitve Spanish Colonial style popular in the southwest.

When you find the marker, find the small sign to the left of the marker. Take the last word of the last sentence from this sign and use the table below to assign a value to each letter in the word. Add up these values, multiply by 10, and put a decimal point in front of the result. Add this to both the North and West coordinate of the following.

N31 30.854 W097 07.518

This will bring you to the final stage.

As an example, suppose the word is CHESS. C=3, H=8, E=5, S=19,S=19, and the total is 54. Multiplying by 10 and putting a decimal point in front gives .540. Adding this to both coordinates gives N31 31.394 W097 08.058. Remember to carry past the decimal point if necessary!

The final stage is a magnetic key-hide container. I would recommend that you drive to the second stage even though it is not a particularly long walk. There is a great deal of dangerous traffic between the two points, and no clear sidewalks.
