The First of 4 caches I placed near or along the non-paved eight mile section of FR-165 & the shortest way to the top if you live in North Albuq. or Rio Rancho.
take I-25 north & take exit 242 turn right"EAST" and your on RT-165.
165 joins the crest road @ the Balsam Picnic Ground.
There are several signs that tell you the road is closed for the Winter. These signs are up 365 days a year.
A few miles After it turns to dirt you will come to 4 post on the right side within 100 feet of the coords listed above.
Park across the road & walk up hill to the Gray Sign the cache is located WITHIN 6 feet downhill from the sign. on the Downhill side of a Rock
A Small plastic Container in a baggie. NO PEN LOG ONLY.
The coords will ONLY get you near the sign as it very difficult to get a good reading in this area.
About two years ago Shakey Jim, Mouser & I Hiked from the
N10-K TH to this road via the 10-K trail. Osha trail & Osha Spring Trail where you now stand. We made a stop to be FTF the Landsend Barite Mine Cache by Ganelo.
A short distance up the Road on the left side @ 35 15.288 106 24.395 if you look up high on the Cliffs you will see the stairs that take you to Sandia Man Cave.
The "Watermellon Man II Cache" is up there somewhere & The "Sandia Man Cave Route cache" is a very short distance on up the road on the left.
