Rather Heath is an interesting area between the Crook Road and the A591. The cache is located along a footpath which makes a very pleasant short walk. Start either end but the Ashes Lane/old A road lay-by is recommended.
The path is a little muddy in places but not too bad. There is a wide variety of trees including huge soaring oak trees. There's a small stream at the NE end which is great for thirsty dogs. The path also passes Rather Heath Tarn which is used by anglers. There is a nice view right along the tarn to the boat house. The SW end becomes grass fields with gorse bushes and a wider view of the area.
The footpath can be linked with others to make a more extensive route, however, it's worth the visit just to walk this section - it's really a very nice spot! Go over the stile in the wall if coming from Ashes Lane.
