Geocache Description:

Hertig Karl Gustaf, senare Karl X Gustaf hade Öland som förläning när han 1653 lät bygga muren. Den ca 2 meter höga muren sträcker sig från Ölands östra kust till den västra.
Muren var ett vilthägn för att stänga inne de kungliga hjortarna på kungsgårdens marker. Trots det så lär det ändå ha funnits hjort på båda sidor om muren.
Däremot lyckades den hålla ute allmogens djur från den kungliga marken. Muren var nog mer tänkt som skrytbygge än vilthägn. Den gav ju, om inte annat kungsgården en väldigt imponerande inramning.
Muren är bara genombruten på två platser, där östra och västra landsvägen går.
Under byggnadstiden var arbetskraften gratis, här fick allmogen på södra Öland bidra med skattedagsverken.

Duke Karl Gustaf, later Charles X Gustav had Öland as a fiefdom in 1653 when he built the wall. During the construction period was the Duke access to free labor, known as tax day's work.
The approximately 2 meters high wall stretching from Öland east coast to the west..
The wall was meant to be for wildlife to contain the royal deer on the King farm lands. It was probably not fully successful.
The wall was probably more of a swagger building than it was meant to from the beginning.
