The building at the top of the hill was an elementary school for 80 years (1932-2012), and this area was used as an outdoor classroom. Although the building is still used by the school district, the area is sadly no longer well maintained. As you walk along the path, perhaps you might still see it with the childlike wonder of the young children who once laughed, played, and learned here.
At the given coordinates, there is a sign with 4 words on it. Find the second word on the sign. Take the second to the last letter of that word and convert it to a number (A=1, B=2, C=3, etc). That number will be AB in the North coordinates below.
On the sign is a picture. Look for an yellow object in that picture. Take the name of that object and convert the 2rd and 3rd letters of that object's name to numbers (see above). Subtract the smaller number from the larger to get a single digit answer. That number will be C in the North coordinates below.
N 41° 39.ABC
Now, count the number of letters in the first word on the sign. The number of letters will be X in the West coordinates below. Next, count the number of letters in the second word on the sign. The number of letters will be Y in the West coordinates below. Finally, count the number of letters in the name of the yellow object pictured on the sign. Take your answer for C above and subtract it from the number of letters in that object. The result will be Z in the west coordinates below.
W 091° 32.XYZ
Those are the coordinates for stage 2. The trail head can be found by walking to the north (toward the main street). At stage 2, look for coordinates to the final. Disregard the letter box. It's not part of this geocache. Good luck an enjoy the short walk!
This was Hawkeye V&A's first cache and is one of the older caches in the area. Thanks to them for placing it and ***** Congrats c_dog on being FTF!! *****
