Diamond Peak L.O. site
How Geocaching Works

This cache is place at the former Diamond Peak Look out site in the Blue Mountains of the Umitilla National Forest Cache elevation is 6284 feet above sea level. There is a Bench mark near the lookout site showing the elevation of 6379 ft. You can see some of the old tower footings near the existing building and North near the tree line.
The Lookout tower is long gone and there is a communication site at the location today. There are two good parking areas to access the trail to Diamond Peak. The first one is at a scenic view point and the trail marker states it is 1 mile to Diamond Peak.
I drove to the end of the road and parked at a good turn around area. From here the peak is .81 mile away.
The trails are marked as an wilderness area, and no motorized vehiclels are allowed. The route in, appears to have been a former narrow jeep trail leading up toward the old lookout location.
From the main hiking trail I turned off of this trail at N46 deg. 07.175 W117 deg. 32.523 and followed the old jeep trail to the ridge top and went SE to the site.
The cache container is a 4" Black ABS tube about 12" long with a good weather tight plug cap. This should be a very low maintenance cache.
Appearently there is a second container with a log book very close to the cache container. I have been told it is a jar with a red cap or lid. It was placed by American Hiking .org.
Note to any of the FTFs. I forgot to place a Geocache disclaimer form with the log book. If you happen to hike into this cache, I would appreciate it if you would take along this form. It could be a short while before I get down there again.
