A Family Bicycling/Rollerblading Event at the Veloway! Saturday,
July 28 at 9am

rain!
Have you biked the Veloway? It’s an Austin TREASURE, and there are
“treasures” hidden along the path. Let’s meet out there on July 28
at 9am and ride, relax and find those caches. It’ll be fun! We will
be setting up some tents at the Bowie High School access point.
Park in the Bowie parking lot, bring your bike, chair, cooler, etc.
down to the Veloway and we’ll take off from there. The Veloway is a
3.3 mile paved loop that winds around and up and down through some
very pretty land. It’s really a joy to ride without the danger of
cars and the hassle of joggers. Most kids will be able to handle
the course if they don’t mind walking up the one steep hill
(short). There is a shortcut that means the shortest route you can
take on this one-directional course is about 1 mile long. Stronger
riders can go around as many times as they want! THE RULE: (and
there is only one) You MUST move your bicycle completely off the
payment when you stop for a geocache. This is common courtesy
for the other people, and we don’t want to bring too much attention
to the fact that geocaches are encouraging people to actually WALK
on the pavement (prohibited, but it’s their rule, not mine, so I
still can say I only have one.) If you would like to bring snack
items like trail mix, cookies, Gatorade or even donuts and
breakfast tacos, feel free. We could also use a big cooler of water
with cups and a cooler with ice for other drinks. If you prefer to
lounge under the tents and just WATCH the cycling, hey, no problem.
Bring your chair and cold drinks. You guys can discuss the finer
points of geocaching in the summer heat. BUT, again, you are NOT
allowed to walk across the veloway to find the caches.
