Geocache Description:

CACHE IS NOT AT THE ABOVE COORDINATES

But, I will give you 44°__@___/gal and 88°__@___/gal.

How much do you pay?.

I was out caching with a buddy of mine last week and we got on the topic of gas prices. Whenever we get together, he does the driving and I ride shotgun to save on gas. Well, he'd been doing quite a bit of caching lately and was having to venture further from the valley to do so. So it was only natural for us to end up on the topic and talk about, what is for me, one of the drawbacks of the sport, burning fossils fuels for fun - if you happen to stick with it and continue going for those milestones.

We talked about peak oil and the fact that we were already on the downward slope of supply and what that would mean for the future price of gas. That it will continue to rise at an even greater rate to meet the cost of inflation, shrinking supply and increasing demand, until some other form of liquid fuel becomes a viable alternative.

Then he got into a tale (hard to tell how tall it was) about buying fuel for his Bass fishin trips a couple years ago, and it went something like this...

So there I was, fishing off the reefs when a big ol Black Bass struck on the San Juan worms I'd picked up from a local who said they weren't half bad. After playin him for something like 13 minutes, I finally landed that bad boy, and man was he a whopper. A full 26”! He looked like a tank!

Man, that was something. I'd gone down to celebrate the Return of the Swallows in 05. I remember gassing up the fishing boat there cause it was sooo cheap. You know, when I went overseas to troll for rock bass in the Balkans a week later I was shocked. I filled the tank on the club rental for 569 Kroon which, at half the capacity of fuel tank in the Carribean boat, was almost twice what I paid to fuel up in the islands! I mean, the price difference was crazy!

In many foreign countries, the cost of gasoline has been double or close to triple what we pay today at the pumps in the US for many years. It won't be long before we are paying $6 a gallon in the states, but at least you can take some comfort in knowing that many European countries and others have been paying that much for a gallon of petrol for years. Unless you are in a country that subsidizes or wholly owns its oil refineries and sells it on the cheap for the benefit of its citizenry. Certainly not the case here!
