Geocache Description:

For english description se below...
------------------------------------------------------

God jagt.

Tillykke til Familien SHOCK med FFC

English

Vilhelm Lauriitzen terminal, was the first passenger terminal in the airport and opened in 1939. It was named after the architect who drew it.

I was used as airport terminal with both departure and arriving traffic including control tower until 1960, when the "Terminal 2" was opened.

In 1999 the area where the terminal was situated was designated for expansion for the new terminal 3. But the environmental authorities found the building worthy of preservation.

Copenhagen Airport choose to move the terminal from the area where Terminal 3 is situated now and to Maglebylille, where it stands today. It had to be moved 2.4 miles.

The decision was made to move the whole terminal in one piece and it became "the largest relocation project in Europe’ and was added to Guinness book of World Records.

A giant flatbed truck consisting of about 60 coupled trailers with 744 wheels was used to move the terminal across the airfield. It was moved during the night on september 18th to 19th 1999, to have the lowest impact on the traffic in the airport.

Before the relocation all parts of the terminal that weren't from the original building were removed so that the original terminal was all that was left.

Today the terminal is used for office space and special arrangements.

You can walk down the road and take a look at the terminal, but you won't be able to get close to it as it is placed inside the airport area.
