Geocache Description:

DSC01707 This mini multi cache is at Buscot, a small village, owned by the National Trust, and is part of the Thames Path series. The co-ordinates above are the suggested parking co-ordinates. The cache is a small walk through the village, over the weir, to the Thames Path. Apologies if you are walking the Thames Path, but this will only divert you for a short time, to gather the details, then take you back to the path again. At least it will be an opportunity to have a break, and walk into the village for a rest bite. There is a small village shop, tea rooms, toilets, picnic area and a children’s play area.

The Thames Path follows England's best known river for 184 miles (294km) as it meanders from its source in the Cotswolds through several rural counties and on to the City of London. On its way the Trail passes peaceful water meadows rich in wildlife, historic towns and many lovely villages, finishing at the Thames Barrier near Greenwich.

Buscot Lock is the smallest lock on the River Thames. It was built in 1790 by J.Knock who also built St John’s Lock a short distance away at Lechlade. Until comparatively recently, the lock used to be manned by the St John’s lock keeper, who was issued with an extra pair of trousers and a bicycle, so he could ride to Buscot when called upon.
