Geocache Description:

A pleasant cache on the Roman Road from Fulbourn to Withersfield, near Streetly Hall. H44343

The Roman Road can be picked up at the Fulbourn end at Wandlebury Hill Fort (also known as Wandlebury Ring) and passes through the chalk downland known as the "Gog Magog Hills". Gog and Magog are mythical giants, however it is not known how their names came to be associated with these gentle hills. That said, you have to travel a long way east into Germany before you will find land so high above sea level again!

The Roman Road is accessible by road at many places along its length and is a worthy walk. If you walk from Wandlebury, you can catch a bus back from Horseheath. However, for the less adventurous cacher, a footpath from Horseheath (entrance almost opposite the village post office) to Streetly Hall intersects the Roman Road close to the cache location and provides the easiest access. The Old Red Lion pub in Horseheath provides suitable refreshment and parking in return for your custom.

The cache dates back to January 2003 and it appears that this is the third incarnation, the first being a biscuit tin, the second a tupperware box. Hopefully, the ammo box used this time and the cacher replacing it will ensure longevity on Roman Empire timescales!
