Geocache Description:

The International Fountain was conceived and developed by lifetime Menasha resident and Alderman James Taylor and his wife Monica. Dedicated on May 3rd, 1991, its intent is to "Give our community a feeling of world unity." -James Taylor.

The Fountain Committee asked all of the American Foreign Service Posts to participate by sending a sample of water from their locations around the globe to Menasha to be ceremonially added to the fountain on its day of commemoration.

17 years have passed and the fountain still runs, and is replenished annually, with water from various places. We'd like to continue the tradition by asking you to contribute a water sample of your own. You can find empty vials if needed, by visiting the cache before bringing your water sample. The cache box, located about 15' from the fountain plaque on a wall, is locked and you can find the key close by. Do not log the find until you bring a water sample to add to the fountain.

You may elect to bring a sample of water from a cache that is either in your hometown or in the vicinity of a memorable cache to add to the fountain. When you log the cache, describe the location and water body your sample came from and why it's memorable for you. Include the cache name in your log and it will be added to the International Fountain Map. I also encourage you to supply pictures or video clips of the water source once I add your location to the map (please be patient with me). If you wish to edit your own map content, supply me with your e-mail address in a PM so I can add you as a Contributor to the International Fountain Map.

MENASHA: Named after the Indian word Menashay meaning “settlement on the island,” along with its sister city Neenah meaning “clear water” they are collectively also taken to mean "Laughing Waters" for the sounds that emanated from the twin falls on either side of the island.

This series will not only introduce you to the city of Menasha, but also give you some significant historical knowledge about this town which many drive through just to get from the north side of the Valley to the south. So, the next time you pass through town, you might want to take a little time to look around and appreciate its many unique offerings and establishments.

A huge thanks to Alderman Taylor for providing even deeper historical insight and information than I was able to obtain. It is our hope that after doing the series you will be inclined to stop for a bit the next time you drive through town and appreciate what a unique little community it has been and continues to be by re-inventing itself.
