Lungo la litoranea Flacca, che porta da Terracina a Gaeta, passando
per Sperlonga. Durante la costruzione della strada nel 1957, venne
alla luce un deposito di frammenti marmorei. Furono fatte ricerche
e scavi che portarono alla luce la Villa di Tiberio. Negli anni ’60
fu edificato un museo che contiene molti dei reperti ritrovati e
che vale senza dubbio la pena di essere visto. Dopo si puo’
proseguire per la visita della villa e della stupenda grotta
facente parte del complesso. Qui sono stati rinvenuti quattro
celebri gruppi scultorei , definiti "L’Odissea di marmo",
rappresentanti le imprese di Ulisse. Spezzoni delle sculture sono
conservati nel museo. Da notare che questa è stata definita una
delle scoperte piu’ sensazionali dello scorso secolo.

The location is positioned on the “via Flacca”, the road going
from Terracina to Gaeta, crossing Sperlonga. In the year 1957,
during the road construction, many marble peaces were found. So
excavations and researches were done and Villa Tiberio was
discovered. Then in the sixties a museum, containing all the finds,
was built. The museum is really worthy to see. After that you can
visit the “villa” and the gorgeous grotto which is part of the
complex. In the grotto were found four famous sculptures named the
“marble Odyssey” that represents the adventurous Ulysses’ travel.
Big peaces of the sculpture are shown in the museum. This is
considered one of the most important archaeological discoveries of
the last century.
