Geocache Description:

A great family cache on the edge of the small market town of Kirkby Lonsdale. Unfortunately the cache is currently not as easily accessible as it should be due to the path to the cache from Ruskin's View being closed.

Some bright spark in H&S at the Council thinks that the whole hillside is about to be swept away by the river undercutting the bank. The barriers put in place are quite easily bypassed (maybe at night with no muggles around) but not recommended. Access to the cache can still be made by walking from the road leading to Holme Farm towards Underley Park and up through the woods past the Rugby Club (start of the path is about 1Km north of the town on the Old Town Road. You can also gain access to the woodland path through the Rugby Club.

The cache isn't actually at Ruskin's View as there usually too many muggles there at all times of the day. But the cache is not too far away. Ruskin described this view in 1875 as "one of the loveliest in England and therefore in the world". You will have to make up your mind if you agree with him. The view was also painted by Turner in 1822. You may be puzzled by the colours on the farm in the middle of the view. Several years ago the owner had a dispute with the planning authority, which he lost. He then decided to paint the outside of some of his buildings in rather 'interesting' colours. Despite appeals by the planning authority, there was nothing they could do to stop the owner from doing this and the colours remain (although fading a bit now). However, I do not think it spoils the view - although one of theclarkes is colour-blind! Although the cache site is not quite as busy as Ruskin's view itself, it is still a popular spot by a popular footpath and you may have to wait until the 'coast is clear' before retrieving and re-hiding the cache. Please make sure the cache is properly hidden before you leave with the guard stone and/or twigs and leaves. Please do not try to climb over the spiked metal railings. This is not a good idea and there is a much easier way to get to the cache! The hint is designed to help you spot the likely hiding place without having to rootle around in full view of passing dog walkers. Also, it is not in the graveyard. Enjoy the view. The original cache was a 'small' but after being muggled in early April 2016 it has been replaced by a large micro. Please tuck away the cache carefully in its hidey hole and cover. Thank you.
