This location was the site of the Nelson Butte Fire Lookout. It over looks some of the drainages to Lake Chelan's North shore at the elevation of 6280 ft.
The lookout is long gone and by the looks of the area It was burned rather than removed. There are some anchors and the rock base still identifible. A recent forest fire burned through the area West of the tower site.
The best route is from the North, just below the South Navarre Campground. It is about a half mile hike and about 350 to 400 foot elevation gain. There is an old fire brake trail part way up the hill. It is over grown with brush and a lot of burned trees have fallen across the trail.
The cache container is a 4" daimeter x 10" long black PVC pipe with a weather tight screw plug. It is hidden in a rock cave. YOU DO NOT have to move any rocks to get the cache. GPS signals were terrific at a 12 ft. accuracy reading.
