Theodore Wirth (1863–1949) was Swiss born, an administrator of parks, horticulturalist, and designer for our great Minneapolis parks system.
At 743 acres, Wirth Park is by far the largest park in the Minneapolis park system. It includes the Eloise Butler Wildflower Garden and Bird Sanctuary, the J.D. Rivers' 4H Children's Garden, the Daylily-Perennnial Garden, a remnant tamarack bog, an 18-hole and a Par 3 golf course, and the natural woodlands that surround these features. In addition, water features include Birch Pond, Wirth Lake, and the lagoons of Bassett's Creek. Wirth also features the new snowboard park and the off-road cycling trail.
