Forte do Cavalo - Faróis de Portugal Traditional Cache

PT: O Farol do Forte do Cavalo está situado no canto SE do forte de S. Teodósio, no extremo da baía de Sesimbra. A construção deste forte foi iniciada em 1648 e terminou em 1652.
EN: The Horse Fortress Lighthouse is situated on the SE corner of the Fortress of S. Teodósio, in the extremity of Sesimbra bay. The construction of this fort was initiated in 1648 and finished in 1652.

PT: Após a construção que durou quase um ano, o farol iniciou o seu funcionamento em 15 de Setembro de 1896, emitindo uma luz vermelha fixa.
EN: After the construction that lasted almost one year, the lighthouse started functioning in 15 September 1896, emitting a fixed red light.

PT: Por motivo da I Guerra Mundial, o farol esteve apagado entre Março de 1916 e Dezembro de 1918.
EN: During the World War I, the lighthouse was extinguished between March 1916 and December 1918.

PT: Em 1927 a luz do farol foi alterada para luz fixa branca, que era ocultada em períodos regulares por um dispositivo mecânico.
EN: In 1927 the light was changed to a white fixed light, which was occulted in regular periods by a mechanical device.

PT: Em 14 de Fevereiro de 1940 a gestão do farol passa para o Ministério das Finanças, bem como o forte e terreno adjacentes, e no mesmo momento o espaço ocupado pelo farol passa para o Ministério da Marinha.
EN: In 14 February 1940 the management the lighthouse goes to the Ministery of the Finances, as well as the adjacent fort and land, and at the same moment the lighthouse passes to the Navy Ministery.

PT: Em 28 de Abril de 1952 passa a utilizar como fonte de energia o gás e em 1959 a torre do farol é pintada de vermelho. Em 1972 foi electrificado, sendo ligado à rede pública. Finalmente em 1983 é automatizado, passando a utilizar lâmpadas de halogénio.
EN: In 28 April 1952 the gas is used as power source and in 1959 the tower of the lighthouse is painted of red. In 1972 it is electrified, connected to the public network. Finally in 1983 it is automatized, starting to use halogen light bulbs.
