Geocache Description:

PORTUGÊS:
Pico do Mú

ENGLISH:
Pico do Mú

Caldeirão mountains are an important landmark, splitting Algarve from Lower Alentejo. It’s a complex set of hills, being Mú one of the highest (587 m). Human presence in the area has been reduced along the last couple of centuries, as people migrate to main cities and the more fertile and developed Algarve region. Today, only a few small villages resist to this movement. And it’s still possible to find some groups of abandoned houses around the area. Agriculture its practiced in small or micro scale. Geological conditions do not allow any other kind of earth exploration. Main products are: cork, goat cheese, honey and liquors produced from a very specific berry named “medronho”.
“Talefe” – Regional word used to designate a geodesic mark. In this spot a gathering of local people will traditionally happen by the first Sunday of each May. Food and drink will be available in generous portions and an improvised typical dancing event will most likely occur. To reach the place you should use the road connecting Almodovar and Loule.
