Geocache Description:

Near what was the Birmingham International Raceway at the Alabama State Fairgrounds

My dad used to bring my brothers and I to the races here almost every Friday night when we were young, when racing was more for the fans than corporate sponsors. We met many of the big name drivers, especially the weekend of the race in Talladega. BIR was a stepping stone for the Allisons, Red Farmer, Neil Bonnett and the rest of the old Alabama Gang. I remember seeing many movies at the Drive-In where the cache is presently located. I miss coming here to see locals run.
Maybe Loony Larry can revitalize this area, but the damage he's done by saying good riddance to the track will never be forgotten by me.
Easy grab and go in a common location.
Cache clings to metal.
Sadly, it's probably not a good nighttime hunt.

Congratulations to DrDFrid for FTF.
