Geocache Description:

Park, peruse, pause, pass on.

This cache was placed in response to a request of an adventurer trying to complete the King Boreas County Seat Challenge, Minnesota Style Cache (GC15FYZ).

Lake of the Woods County is proud of these statistics:
1 - There are no stop lights in the whole county!
2 - It is the youngest Minnesota County, breaking off from Beltrami County in 1923.
3 - There are two schools in the county: one just west of Baudette serving preschool – 12th grade and the other, Minnesota’s last one room school house located at the Northwest Angle serving children through sixth grade.
4 - It is the most northern county in the lower 48 states.
5 - There are only 3½ people per square mile.

Within two blocks of the cache you will find: the county museum, county government center, law enforcement center (dispatch, jail and offices of the sheriff and state patrol), county highway department, city maintenance garage with city police, and two benchmarks. Stop in the lobby of the Government Center to see some nice historical photos.

Also visit the museum and see exhibits of local history. Main entrance is around the block. Check the website for more information and times - www.lakeofthewoodshistoricalsociety.com.

While approaching the cache, take time to admire the rusty wares, the closest one being used to haul boats from Baudette Bay in former days. Permission has been received from the former curator, Marlys Hirst and new curator Lindsay Marshall (2017).
