Quite a while ago actually. This was my first kill with my dad's 12-gauge and it only took me four plus years of trudging through the winter woods alongside my two older brothers to finally bag this 1.
I was in a creek-bed hollow very much like the location of Walking on Velvet Green, when I spied this one crossing the creek. I about soiled myself when I took the shot and it dropped. My depth perception was awry, however, and I thought it was a sizable doe. Turns out it was just a faun, and after I got the little guy I was somewhat distraught with myself and turned off from deer-hunting. It seemed I lacked good judgment and was unable to discern between this and a truely big one. I subsequently gave the sport up for sixteen years.
But, with the world turning as it is, I'm starting to feel the importance of keeping and honing any artisian skills as closely tied to the land as hunting is. So, I shouldered the aught-six again and, at the age of 37, got back into the hunt. Not just for my sake, but for my kids who may have to fend for themselves one day and need these skills, less they bag a little 1 as I did so many years ago.
This case is located on public hunting grounds, please wear appropriate gear in-season.
UPDATE: 1.20.09 Geochecker added. This is a multi, just so you know beforehand. I've also added clues for the WP's. The cords for WP2 were off (sorry) and didn't get fixed earlier as I had thought they had. They should be right on now.
UPDATE: 4.8.11 The magic of Bing maps has increased the accuracy of these cords tenfold. Little bits modified and updated here and there.
