Geocache Description:

"Across The Creek" is located on WI DNR public hunting and fishing grounds in Winnebago County. Wear blaze orange if seeking this cache during open hunting seasons.

This cache is a spontaneous hide made while seeking another cache placed nearby that caused me to discover this particular wild area. Being as there was plenty of room for another cache here, I thought, why not? Since then, three other caches have now followed surrounding mine. This is a great area for a cache, and those who missed the FTF chase on "Ye Old Hunting Grounds" will get an opportunity for an FTF and a couple other new caches in this general area.

The sounds and sights of wildlife were abundant as I placed this cache, with geese, sandhill cranes, pheasants, and red-bellied woodpeckers seen or heard, along with the sighting of whitetails nearby as I entered the area. The trek to the cache starts in open field near farmland and quickly changes to mixed wooded lowlands with a small creek flowing into the woods. The terrain becomes wetter as you venture further into the woods.

Parking is located at N 44 13.769, W 88 41.223.

The container was initially a camo'd micro with a roll log and pencil. Difficulty was about 2.5 (later raised to a 3.0 after several DNFs) due to the size of the container and the number of potential hiding spots. Terrain was set at 2.5 (later bumped down to a 2.0 for some odd reason) to average out for varying conditions. AS OF 8/23/09, THE TWICE MIA MICRO WAS UPGRADED TO A SMALL CONTAINER TO PREVENT THE SUSPECTED REASON FOR DISAPPEARANCE (SQUIRRELS?), AND THE DIFFICULTY LOWERED TO 2.0. AFTER SEEING WHAT THE AREA LOOKS LIKE IN ALL SEASONS, THE TERRAIN WAS BUMPED BACK UP A NOTCH TO 2.5.

Please tread lightly in the area of the cache so as not to trample any native wildflowers and plants that are are present in the area, particularly in the spring. In the late summer, feel free to trample some of the stinging nettle that dominates some of the area. Replace the camo as found to keep the hide secure and the challenge sporting for those who follow you.

The Geocache Notification Form 2500-118 has been submitted to Steve Hoffman at the Waupaca Office of the Wisconsin DNR.

Congratulations to Team Honeybunnies for the FTF on May 3, 2008!

Congratulations to Sparse Grey Hackle and the Blondie Bloodhound for the FTF on the newly upgraded hide on August 23, 2009!
